Quick question and perhaps some help... I am in the process of setting up a mini theater in my family room; that will only for now be running 2 BS spkrs; will add CC and sub later. Can not do stands (WAF) and scrapped hard wood floors rule this out. My display is sitting on its stand and the shelves (2) are approx. 10.5' tall; so I am somewhat limited by what's available. Seems e/thing is greater than 10'. So; can I lay the BS on their side? And am I missing something... looked at various brands and all I could find was Energy
less than 10' tall and they R very expensive! I would like to not spend more than $175 max for the BS spkrs. Thxs in advance

You can put rubber feet on the bottom of stands to prevent damage to the floor.

Yes you can put them on their sides, it just isn't going to give you ideal sound.

Check out the Behringer 2030p.

Can you wall mount?
No; unfortuately too costly with wiring, etc. and of course the WAF. I believe Bose has smaller type spks but I refuse to buy them.... primary listening will be 60% tv; 30% music and 10% movies.

The behringers would have to go on their sides, which while it isn't ideal, you've got other situations that aren't ideal as well.

Since you're looking for something small and dynamic, and since they have to go on a shelf, I personally would recommend the Klipsch RB-10. It might be slightly over budget, (225 shipped) but its an exceptional performer at that price and has HUGE waf. They are very efficient for their size and are made to the strict specs of the Klipsch Reference Pedigree. My buddy has them on his entertainment center and they really surprised me for the cost and size. Obviously, they pair better with a sub, but you're not gonna find a bookshelf at your budget that won't need one down the road somewhere.

Sounds like something I need to demo. Where did he get them at?

He actually got them at Best Buy before they dropped the Ref line for 75 bucks for the pair off the floor. I've been a klipsch fan for a while, and also have the 2030's. The 2030's are a more accurate speaker, but the Klipsch is more fun to listen to, you know what i mean? Especially with movies.. those little horns are amazing.

Energy is a great speaker. Thats a great price as well. I would not talk you out of those.

I am not the biggest fan of Energy, but their speakers are not bad at all. I wouldn't talk you out of those either.

Because of the curved sides, it might be tough to lay the KEFs on their side :)

I just noticed this isn't your home theater. I suggest you let her pick out what she thinks looks the best. I'm sure she knows you don't like Bose. Just let her pick it out off accesssories 4 less and you will have halfway decent speakers.

Also Mirage nanosats or the KEF speakers would work just fine to.

Do you have any pictures? I'd like to have an idea of what might look good in that room. Thanks.

Hmmm, good observation... Now that you point that out, I have to agree with you. Sounds like a very nice dedicated HT.

Hey guys... thanks for your help... I am out of town for the balance of the week and upon return will try to snap a few pics. In the end; as you noticed this is NOT my dedicated HT... I want a "simple" mini theater in my family room.... In doing this; I want to do it on the cheap! I know this is the wrong area... but I am looking at the Pio 919; for just north of $300! Also looking at Onkyo 607. Thxs again
