Hi every1 .. I'm having an audio problem with the hdmi. I can't hear any dialogues or commentary when playing ps3, but the music and the sound effects are fine. should i set the audio output to bitstream or PCM? or is it because of the t.v? or should i buy this thing "A device compatible with Linear PCM 7.1. Ch. which is required to output 7.1 Ch. audio from the HDMI OUT connector."
Please help me.. thanx in advance.

A couple questions to help with diagnosing the problem:

1) What speaker set-up do you have (2.0, 5.1, 7.1, etc.)?

2) What make and model of receiver or amp?

3) Have you used the test tones from your AVR/amp to verify each speaker is working and produces approximately the same sound level as the others?

If no test tones available, put your ears near each speaker during ps3 playback to verify which speakers are outputing sound.

4) Is the system working normally with other inputs/media (DVD, CD, MP3, etc.)?

 My best guess at this point is that the Left and Right mains are playing the music/sound effects you are hearing, and you may have a problem with your Center channel/it's setup, since dialogue is typically routed to that speaker.

Eagle took care of most of the questions, but here's one more:

I'm assuming you just recently switched to HDMI, did everything work right prior to the switch?

I'm gonna take a shot in the dark. Are you hooking up the HDMI from the PS3 straight into the TV?

1) 2.0 and 5.1 , and if i checked 7.1 i get a message that the speakers may be damaged, so i uncheck it.

2) Hyundai HSLCD32L16 plasma

3) No, i haven't. How do i know if it's available or not? anyways, i think the right and left speakers are the ones outputing sound because i can't hear anything from the center.

4) With the HDMI , i don't know i haven't tried anything yet . I only use it for playing ps3 games that require an HDMI cable . But with the digital out (optical) , yes , it works normally.

"I'm assuming you just recently switched to HDMI, did everything work right prior to the switch? "

Yes.

"Are you hooking up the HDMI from the PS3 straight into the TV? "
Yes.

Generally the HDMI would go from your PS3 into your Receiver (It carries both the video and audio), where your receiver can process the audio and send it to the speakers, and send the video out to the tv. You would have another cable running from the receiver "Out" to your TV input - Generally HDMI if your receiver outputs that, for the video.

If your receiver doesn't do HDMI then you can run a cable directly from the PS3 into the TV for video, then run a fiber cable from the PS3 to your receiver for audio.

If you are using the fiber cable for audio I think the PS3 has to be set to bitstream.

If you are using HDMI to the receiver then you would use PCM to have the PS3 process the audio and send it to the receiver, or bitstream to have the receiver do the processing. I believe I have read that if you want to use the newer loss-less formats that with the PS3 you have to do PCM for them as it won't bitstream them (someone Please correct me If I am wrong)

I was wondering if there is a specific type of HDMI cables that can be hooked directly from the PS3 to the tv and transmits both audio and vedio ?!!

All HDMI cables can do audio and video; do not waste money on expensive ones.

If you are wanting audio from the TV, and do not have a separate sound system, then you need to set the PS3 to output a format that the TV can handle. Most likely, you need it set for 2.0 sound (check the manual for your TV for what it can accept).
