Hi,
i just took the plunge and bought a Denon 2310CI (got a really good deal on it). Now I'm just looking to get at least the 3 fronts. the room is about 20x20 maybe a bit bigger (it includes the kitchen and living room) but the couches are placed at about 8 feet away from the TV.
As far as the budget, maybe under $600 (under $500 would be better). ---> for the 3 speakers
i was looking at bookshelves but i'm open to towers also. i will buy the sub and 2 rears later on.
speakers will be for 90%tv/movies and 10%music.

thanks in advance for your help

You could get 5 infinity beta's for $250 on ebay and have $250 to $350 left over for a sub. You could also get 6 behringer 2030p for $400 or so and have $100 to $200 left over for a sub.

The betas are cheap not because they are low end speakers, but because they have been discontinued. The behringers from what I hear are just an incredible deal.

IMO, why buy just 3 speakers when you can get 5 speakers of the same quality and still have room for a sub. If your budget wore more like $1000 I think you could buy 3 fronts that would sound better than the betas or behringers, but at $500 I really don't think that's possible.

Hope this helps:D

Paradigm speakers. :)

* A pair of Paradigm Titan Monitor for the two front mains.
* And a Paradigm CC-190 for the center channel.

Try to get a good deal for the three of them. Even check the used market (Audiogon, Videogon, and places like that).

If you cannot find a price that satisfy you, just substitute the two front mains for a pair of Paradigm Mini Monitor speakers. :) Excellent speakers for your Denon AVR-2310ci. Great match. :)

*** You can always get a third Mini Monitor for the center channel too. Just put it in a lower stand, in front of your display. :) Like about 6 to 10 inches high stand, depending on the bottom of your display. Then, just angle it to your ears, by using some higher pieces of rubber under the front edge.

Cheers,

Bob

well my choice is coming down to 2 as far as the 3 fronts:

either the Hsu 3 fronts for $505+shipping and tax

or the Paradigm Titan or Mini (still not sure) + a cc190 or cc290 for center.

what you guys think?

it will be on a denon 2310ci

Both good choices. How much would you pay for the Paradigms?

is there a big difference between the Titan and the mini?
How would those hold against floor standing speakers of about the same price?

I vote for the Jamos. I've been in love with them for years and the wwstereo deal is great. Best bang for the buck in my opinion.

ok, i went and listen to the Klipsch RF-52 and RF-62. do you think the Hsu speakers or the Paradigm would sound better (even if they are only bookshelfs).

i'd like to know before i do a 3-4 hours drive down to LA to listen to the Hsu

Well, one is a floorstander, and the Mini is a bookshelf model.
Sound wise, they're both great, but you get more bass extension with the Titan, of course. Me, I'll pick the Titan, because it covers more of the audio range, always a plus in my book.

Klipsch speakers are bright and could be very annoying if you're not use to that horn tweeter. They lack accuracy, they are colored, they play loud; good for heavy metal music lovers.

Paradigm are built with Jazz and Blues and Classical and Folk voices and piano and chorals and all these nice style of music to cover a wide range of music preference for many people. They are meticulously build, they are refined, with good imaging, soundstage, great voices, spacious, open, neutral, balanced and all that good stuff from what a good speaker should sound. Built for sound quality.

* Your best bet is to listen to these two brands, and come back here, and tell me if I was right.

yea, the main issue i have is that since i'm new to all that, i don't really know what to look for (or listen for should i say). i listened to some music and couple movie scene with the klipsch. they sounded good to me. the guy told me that for movies he wouldn't recommend the paradigm. he said they were more for music listening. But i still wanna listen to them first. then i wonder if it is worth for me to drive down to LA to listen to the Hsu

I don't know if this will help, but I have owned Klipsch and Paradigm speakers. I will say that I liked the Klipsch for movies (Synergy F-3). I was not happy with them for music after I listened to Paradigm. I think the comment that Paradigm is more for music does not do them justice. I have a friend that runs Studio 20s for his theater room and they sound excellent for movies (My Paradigms are not doing movie duty yet, but will in the future). Not as "in your face" as Klipsch, but more detailed in my opinion. You still get the explosion factor with the 20s and a sub, but you also get the detail of the individual pieces of glass hitting the pavement. Either way, it comes down to personal preference and budget.

so you think the Hsu would sound the same as the Klipsch since they got the horn also?

I need to decide some up....my brand new receiver feels lonely in that box

If someone (dealer) does not recommend another brand of speakers, go shop somewhere else, quite simple. You need all the help that you can get, and it ain't it.

Generally (in 99.9999999999999999%) of all cases, if a speaker sound good on Music recordings, from good quality recordings, of course, there is a percentage of chance, which represents 99.9999999999999999%, that it will also sounds good on Movies.

And you've gotta listen to them first, and one more, and one more pair, and more pairs, and more.......................... til tou feel so sick of it (in a very pleasurable fashion, without trowing up), that you know exactly which one to choose now. :)
It's a time consuming labor of love, mixed with a strong determined passion, just like a deep bond of love between a man and a woman.
See, how simple it is. ;) But it's also true.

For speaker's auditioning, everything is worth it. If you are going to spend a reasonable amount of time with them, it is easily worth several gas tank's fill ups.
So, get your a$$ in that car, and ride it to your prefered audio speaker's store, or shop, or boutique, or dealer, or whatever and whoever sells good quality speakers.
It's a learning experience that you will cherish for the rest of your life.

Best regards,
Bob

Note: Find your nearest Paradigm dealer, and give them a serious chance, you deserve it,
you owe to yourself, and to them, you're a fine young man.
