That's just flat out wrong. In hot places, it makes a huge difference in comfort level and limits the damage caused by sunlight.

What? Thats an asinine thing to say. Its not for everybody and sure, there might be some stereotypical judgments that come with it, but "loser" wouldn't come to mind. My windows are tinted, completely legal, and are very practical. Keeps the leather cool in the summer, protects the contents, safer to drive when sunny.

Modding early 90's Hondas is for losers. Makes about as much sense....

You're referring to all of those mosquitos buzzing around most major cities?

i'm curious how dark your tints are ... i've heard that the front row in the US shouldn't have tints, hence cars made for the US that are also distributed here in the Philippines have blackened windows from the 2nd row to the back.

i have super black tint round the sides and rear and full magic neutral windshield mostly because of the heat AND safety. there have been some bad elements targetting single passenger cars.
I have 35% on my front windows. I think part of the problem is that I have a dark gray car with black interior, so it probably makes my tint look even darker. I just don't get why states are allowed to set their own tint laws. What is legal varies pretty widely from state to state. I think I'll just have it removed, get my ticket signed off, then put 50% tint on. That's quite a bit lighter, so hopefully that will be less obvious to Johnny Law.

When the wife and I were going to dinner tonight, there was a cop on foot, standing behind a tree with a radar gun trying to catch people speeding.

They sure as hell seem to be out more than usual. Cops can say that they don't have quotas, but I think that's a load of crap.

Same here in Florida. The sun will also fade and destroy the interior in no time.
You're trying to pass that garbage argument to a detailer? HA.

There is ways to protect every aspect of a car from the elements.

That's true but some are really irritating, like ArmorAll. That stuff makes my eyes burn worse than pepper spray. Also, it's not a one-time application, some leave everything feeling greasy and while you don't like it, tinting is fine if someone else wants to use it. You may not like it because you don't make money when it's used instead of all of the protectants.

You have a point with the economy being down and cities and states needing to find ways to generate revenue. A way to do it, write more tickets, add to that, the court costs have gone up. In this area, there are now cameras that will record you and if you break the law, a ticket will be mailed to you. Modern technology.

Nice theory with using cameras for this but at what point do the definitions of what is, or isn't, a crime become arbitrary or totally automated? Also, if they park some clueless hump in front of the monitor, we're all in trouble. I'm not usually one of the overly paranoid, who are absolutely positive that Big Brother is watching and has been all of our lives, but having cameras in every public space isn't my idea of a free society.

Actually, the cameras are only at a few of the busier intersections in a neighboring city, and I also noticed one at a smaller town in the area, again, at a busier intersection. I understand that 800 drivers have been observed not stopping for the red light. Warnings have been issued for the past month, but as of today, violators will get a ticket. I don't know if I care for the idea either, but it is what it is and we're not going to change it. Big Brother is watching.

Maybe where you are but I see them all over Milwaukee.

What's that tapping on my shoulder? Oh, Big Brother wants a snack? OK, you want pizza rolls?

I'm sure you do, the cities are likely to see this first. Here in Iowa, it is still a new thing, at least in my neck of the woods. As far as I know, the city where they started this, only has 4 or 5 places that are watched/taped. In the smaller town, say maybe 10,000 populace, there is just the one so far. I suppose on the plus side, if it helps keep drivers from running a red light, that is a good thing. I understand the drivers in Wisconsin will get a ticket in the amount of $300 for speeding. At least by the patrol. WOW, talk about a hit.

Ah, keep your stick on the ice, Brian.

Its one thing to be "that guy" and arbitrarily ruffle up some feathers, but its a completely different animal when your just plain wrong.

To your first comment. UV rays and heat damage upholstery. Thats a fact.

To the second, while there may be other ways, tinting can eliminate 99% of UV rays and is a one time application.

OF COURSE a detailer trying to sell product wouldn't want me to have my windows tinted, hows he gonna sell me overpriced services if I dont need em?

There are ways to protect cars from the elements and tinting happens to be one of the best. Oh, and its a multitask-er. I'd hate to mention them all again, but one of the reasons I have tint is that I frequently have to carry valuable things that I don't want the real "losers" thinking they need to make their own. Tinting also provides accident protection. If my side glass breaks, the tint will keep most of the glass together instead of it being sent through my spleen.

Point is brotha, you dont have to like it, it might not be for you but don't take something practical, cost saving, energy saving, that a lot of people here do and call them losers. Sorry, you havent earned that right.

Now that I look at it, almost every "exotic" car I can find has relatively dark windows. I'd hate to be the "loser" driving an Enzo. Gosh, how embarrassing.

I wonder if my sunglasses are too dark, I'd hate to be a loser.
