Been looking into receivers in the $1000 range. Could go up or down a little bit if there is something that i would benefit from in a more expensive unit. My home theater is basically used for watching movies and video games. Very little music use. My components are Blu ray, HD box, and xbox 360 all of which are HDMI. Right now im still looking into speakers so i will use my existing Polk 5.1 system until i find the speakers i want. Might end up with Aperion speakers but not sure yet. What do you guys think of these 4 choices?

Denon AVR-2310CI
Pioneer Elite VSX-23TXH
Marantz SR6003
Yamaha RX-V1065

I'm not sure if 6th Avenue is still letting Pioneer SC-07's go for under $1k, but you could give them a try. That's a nice receiver. That said, at $1k I'd probably go with the Emotiva UPA-7 combined with something like the HK254 or Yamaha 663 which have preouts.

Personally, I think it's best that you finalize your speaker choice first, then decide what kind of receiver you need. Spend as much as you need to on the speakers to get the best you possibly can. Choose the receiver with an amp section that's capable of driving those speakers and that has the features you need.

Doing this process in reverse can limit your speaker choices by choosing a receiver unsuitable for driving the speakers you really like.

Part of my problem is i dont have any hdmi on my current receiver and wanted to get that straightened out. I guess i could wait until i can do it all at once.

Marantz SR6003.

You don't need to spend more than $700 for a brand new (top notch receiver), that would provide you with all the latest features and all the true power you really need.

-> Just scroll down a bit.

=> Here's a Review of it with the Bench Tests (on page 2: Ergonomics):

That is what I would do or put it towards a very good subwoofer. By the way, I just saw the Onkyo 806 and it is a good price at newegg too.

I recently got a Marantz SR6003, and I love it so far. One down side is it only has 3 HDMI inputs - not an issue for me, but could be for some. I use mine mainly for movies, some PS3 games too.

Thats one of the things i noticed about the Marantz. I have heard some very good things about Marantz. Id be maxed out on HDMI inputs with only 3.

Now, you got that one right in the bull's eyes. :)

That's the plan man, that's the all idea. ;)

Put money into where your mouth is (speakers) and let the rest easily follow his own destiny (reasonably priced receiver).
