I just want the denon to have decent audio quality like the itube for 2 channel listening.
Well, I have no idea what the Fatman sounds like, but based on what I have read it probably lacks some of the addictive qualities of other tube offerings. Unless you have really spoiled yourself with a SET amp, you'll probably be perfectly content with the Denon.

Sounds good. Just needed confirmation. I was going to do it anyway because I know i'll be itchin to upgrade soon. Will call them tomorrow to schedule a return :D

I'm sorry for all the questions. Brand new to home audio scene. I used to have a Denon receiver but sold it when i moved (forget the model number). I didn't do any research and purchased whatever the salesman at the electronics store put together for me.

Does anyone here have any experience with the Denon AVR 2308ci? Is it an appropriate "starter" receiver for 2 channel listening now and potential upgrades later?

thanks again.

I'm using a Denon 3808ci in 2.1 for mostly music at the moment and have had no issue with it. Enjoy!

do you guys generally think that a a/v receiver has sound reproduction equivalent to a hybrid tube / ss amp such as the fatman itube? I'm considering the receiver route.
An A/V receiver is easier for maintenance, has digital inputs, sounds great, and it simply let you expand to multichanel music and movies, anytime you want. :) The receiver way is a great route to take.

An inexpensive receiver would likely be more versatile. The fatman is cute, but even an entry level receiver would be less finicky re speaker choice and have features the fatman lacks.

If you're into tubes, FTB and get a SET; there are several fantastic ones available at a similar price as the Fatman.

Allright, we're off topic and mentioned tubes. Let the flames begin!
Very true. :)

* As for tubes... ;)

thanks for your response. No this is entirely on subject :D I recently purchased the fatman but am regretting it due to the fact that it lacks certain digital inputs that I now deem important (it only has 2 analog rca inputs). I can't seem to get the ipod video output functioning so...

I'm trying to make the decision to return the itube and pick up a denon avr-2308ci after reading wonderful reviews about it. I can pick one up for around 500 atm. I just want the denon to have decent audio quality like the itube for 2 channel listening.
+1 for the Denon AVR-2308ci. Great overall receiver. The Denon sounds almost like tubes,
if you put your heart into it. :)

I own few Denon receivers and integrated amps, and they sound wonderful. :)
The 2308ci is an excellent starter receiver for 2-channel stereo listening, and a great one to,
at upgrading to a mutichannel speaker system eventually.
I'll say, go for it. You won't regret it. :)

Cheers,

Bob

Thank you for your input. Are there other receivers at that price point that you would recommend. I have been peaking at a couple other forums and apparently some recommend the HK347. I just checked on ebay and they are going for far less than the Denon.

So many options. It's too bad that i won't be able to audition them.

Do you want me to give you all the different choices that are available?

Personally, I prefer Denon over HK. But that's just me. Other people love HK, I don't.

I like Marantz, Onkyo and Yamaha too, and also some Pioneer models.

If you want a narrower choice with model #s, tell me the speakers that you're using right now, the dimension of your room, wood floor, tiles or carpeted, your music genre preference, the volume level that you like, and your favorite color. ;)
Well, that last one, is very subjective now, is it? :)

Cheers,

Bob

I am currently using the Infinity P162 speakers. I paired them with the Fatman Itube. I enjoy these speakers but they occasionally lack on the low end. I can still send these back to Crutchfield.

I enjoy all types of music, from classical, jazz, alternative, rock, trance, hip/hop rap, etc...

Currently, I stay in a condo and the living room size is roughly 18 x 13. I have carpet. I enjoy my music at average to moderate levels (but during the evening, i'll need to turn it down).

Wow i appreciate your help!

Anywhere between 400-500. That receiver seems to fit perfectly.

Could you suggest a sampling of a 400 price point receiver?

Thanks

I was taking a peak at that one. I think i'll go with the SR6001. Apparently, from reviews, it has all the bells and whistles of the SR7001, except it has slightly lower power per channel.

Thanks for all your help.

I was waiting for the dessert at the end. And this is the end. :)

The Marantz SR6001 is a no-brainer. Let me know after you install it at your home. You'll love the sound of it. And it has more power than you'll ever need.

Bob :)
