It's been a long long, long road, but it's finally going to happen. Wifey is going to become a US citizen next Friday.
This road began way back in 2001. After years of filing paperwork, doing interviews, getting pictures and fingerprints taken, and lots of waiting, it's finally coming to an end. But it won't be an unceremonious end. Honey got a call from the INS this morning. It seems that she has been picked to give a speech on what it means to her to become an American citizen! OMG! The pore little thing is 8.759 months prego and is ready to pop at any second. It's a good thing that her best friend (a nurse) has already planned to come with us. I'll have to brush the dust off the old camcorder. It's time to make a DVD! Can't wait to see her waddle up to the mic and give her speech. Hope they have a box for her 4'7" frame to stand on or no one will be able to see her.
She's frightened as h.ll to get up there and talk, but I'm very excited about it. I told her to Google "what it means to me to become an American citizen." I'm sure she'll get so many ideas that she'll have no trouble putting something together. We'll have to go over many times before she feel comfortable with it. She is very shy and this may seem like torture to her now, but years from now she'll be proud of herself for doing it. (I'm already proud of her)

Congrats! That's quite exciting. I felt the same way when my brother became an Audioholic...but he never gave a speech. He did make a video of himself, but that's another story.

Enough jokes. That's fantastic news. I'm very happy for the two (well, three) of you!

Congrats! My wife became a citizen last fall so I certainly can appreciate the long haul. A word of advice, bring a book to the ceremony as there's a lot of waiting around. My wife's ceremony was held at Fenway Park and started at 10am. The actually thing didn't begin till about 2pm and then it wasn't till 4pm that she emerged with her certificate.

Her's is at 11 AM, but we have to go early to meet with a few people on how her speech routine will go. I better bring a few snacks.

4' 7" ?!?!?! Dang, I thought my 5' tall wife was a midget.

Does she have to give the speech? If she's really freaked out, just tell the INS, "No thanks."

Congrats though. Where is she from?

Did I say 4'7"? I'm sorry, she's 4'7-1/2". She gets very mad at me when I leave out the 1/2".

No, she doesn't have to, but it's an honor. It's something she will be very proud of years from now. If she was getting too upset, I would say not to do it. I think she'll be nervous, but get through it.

Congrats though. Where is she from?
Thanks. She is from Yumbing. It's a small town, on a tiny island in the Philippines. http://manilenio.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/camiguin-map.jpg

Very cool! You sound out of your mind proud and you should. This is one of the great counties in the world. I agree that making the speech may be uncomfortable but she will look back on it with pride and it makes for a even better story to tell the little one as he/she grows up.

Thank you. Yes, I am very proud.
Years from now we will be able to show our little one of when mommy became a citizen. "Oh, and look there. See how big mommy's belly is? That was you just x number of days before you were born.":)
