I'm thinking about buying one of those fancy power centers. You know, with the voltage displays on front. The ones I have seen at the box store run from three to four hundred. Right now I have a monster power strip. It cost me around 80. Eventually I'm going to need more receptacles, and one would look cool with my setup. I don't have room to plug my subs in to the strip I have. Is it worth spending all of that money for something that might not be much better than what I have???????????? Would you agree that it would be a good idea to have my subs ran though the strip

I suggest you get one of the APC silver power conditioner.

They have stacks of them at my local fry's for about 30 bucks a pop. They include high current outlets for your receiver and subs.

If you have stable power where you live, I'd say it is a waste of money. I was curious myself and tried the APC HV 15. I did not care for the way it changed the sound of my system. To my ears, with my system, it seemed to give a tiny boost in clarity but really reduced dynamics. I was fairly disappointed so I went back to a power strip.

I've just got a power strip for my equipment but I don't plug my sub into it. Most people around here don't recommend it. Heck some of the guys with big subs or multiples run dedicated power lines just for the subs.

I have the APC H15 and I love it. It's neat to watch it for a minute every now and again to see what your power is doing and also check to see just how much current your equipment draws. I was very surprised just how little current I was using the other night while watching the Eagles HD DVD with my receiver cranked. FWIW, I have my sub plugged into it, also. I may not have golden ears, but I can't tell any difference in the sound quaility and with all the thunder storms around here I appreciate the protection.

Check the AH store or go on APC's website and look in the refurb or excess inventory section and you should get a deal....like half your prices.

If you're interested in the H15, Matt34 has one for sale for $95 plus shipping. Not my sale, not affiliated with it, never used it, just passing on some information.

Other than prompting the human imagination to run wild, there's nothing a power conditioner can do that would result in "boosted clarity" or "reduced dynamics".

I could see a poor power conditioner totally killing your audio. Most dedicated amps should have their own power conditioning built in therefore obviating the need for a power conditioner.

I think your line level electronics are more subceptable to wonky power conditions: Sag, over voltage, line harmonics etc...
