Speaker layout suggestions

Attached is a layout of my room - With my current setup I'm not sure where to put the surround spreakers as the windows are in the way for back speakers and left and right are far away and different distances. My surround speakers will be paradigm ADP-190. I was thinking maybe just on the other side of the windows, but then the right one is kinda in another space...

Also I'm wondering how much the book case and front right speaker being in the corner will affect sound.

The drawing isn't 100% to scale.

Any ideas? I suppose I can lobby for room re-arrangement if It can fit everything and make it look nice.

If it were me, I would rearrange the room ;)

Option 1:

<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From Share</td></tr></table>

Option 2:

<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From Share</td></tr></table>

If you cannot rearrange the room at all, then your best bet is to just put the surround speakers on the other sides of the windows (ie. spread farther apart).

So I really like the option 2 above with the rearranging the room, but if that's not possible is there any way you could mount them to the ceiling? They would be a little high but you could get ideal placement next to that. And with the proper settings in your receiver you wouldn't have any problems.

I could attach them to the ceiling, or above the windows. If on the ceiling would you place them firing toward the front? (as opposed to down toward the floor)

I like ideas 1 and 2, but I need to make sure I have room for my old stereo and record player - that is separate from the TV stuff.

I moved my book case that was in front of the right speaker, and It does seem better...

Here are two pics of the room - not the best angles - they are from when I moved in. the speakers by the TV are the old ones being replaced with monitor 9 v.6, etc.

Would you be ok with using the same front L/R speakers for both your home theater setup and your phono setup?

I ask because with only the couch for a seating area, there's really no way to have a good seat for both the TV and the phono.

If you're set on having different speaker setups for the TV and phono, would you consider co-locating the front speakers? As in having your surround sound speakers on either side of the TV and then having your phono speakers set up so that they flank the front surround speakers?

That sort of setup just makes the most sense to me when you have only the one couch as your seating area.

I might be able to co-locate them.

Right now I usually bring in a chair from the kitchen to sit in when I listen to records - unless I just put music on while I'm working on something else...

Since my new speakers will be much nicer than my current HT speakers I could use the new speakers for both applications. I didn't before because the HT speakers didn't sound as good.

To the OP,

Option 1:

<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From Share</td></tr></table>

Option 2:

<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From Share</td></tr></table>
If you take option 1 and rotate it anti-clockwise so that the location of the TV is in the opposite corner as option 2, it gives you Option 3...

Option 2 or (my) option 3 will give you the most potential for good frequency response...

I agree - Option 3 would work well in your room. If you are keeping a second set of main speakers for the phono setup, Option 3 would also likely give you the most room to set up that second system along one of the longer walls.

I like that option 3. - Maybe put the sub behind the TV though.

I'll give it some lobbying and see where I get...
