I've got some problems with the food and water being a right for everyone. I believe it should be available to all contributors, children, and disabled, but lazy folks should be cut off. Sorry, but if you don't work you shouldn't eat.

JMO take it or leave it. If nobody works we all starve.

The Pope wants to make food and water a right for EVERYONE?!?!? He thinks that rich nations should share with poor nations, and not have profit be the only goal of commerce?!?!?

Why that makes the Pope a Communist, just like Obama!!!! :D

Where's Bible-thumpin' Buckeye Nut when you need 'em?

While it's true that the Catholic Church has done a lot for people, they also are run by a group at The Vatican, which is its own sovereign state. They also have more artwork, money and gold than any organization in the world. His comments about capitalism are pretty suspect. The difference is that the Church is "not for profit" and not subject to the same market competition as most corporations, although they do compete for members.

One main part of the Schism between the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church,in the 1200s, was over whether particular Church should be involved in government (the RC was in favor and the Orthodox Church isn't).

If anyone remembers Second City TV's version of A Man For All Seasons, Dave Thomas played Henry VIII and John Candy played Thomas More and they were in competition to be the reigning power in England. Here's some of the dialogue:

H VIII- "I want to be King!"

TM- "I want to be Pope!"

H VIII- I want to be King of the Popes!" and then he finishes with a near-perfect Richard Harris guffaw.

Surprised this wasn't posted yet... well, really not surprised at all...

Make of it what you will, it's just an interesting read.
Yet, his/church wealth is invested in it;):D
