Best Buy Home Theater Certification

So I have a friend who works and best buy and was chilling over at her apartment. She was working on the online best buy certification test for home theater. 100 questions, you need to get 80 or more right to pass. So she failed it twice in a row, getting 78 the second time. Out of curiosity I asked if I could try taking it once. I ended up passing with an 83, lol. :D

That being said, I don't blame her for not passing, some of those questions were so full of ****. "what bose technology would you need for blah... If you have a wood floor, a large room, and vaulted ceilings, what bose technology would you need...what component of this monster cable makes it special...Stupid **** like that. They had a ton of questions that were "check all that apply" and then gave you for options, but all of them were right. And there were a lot of Best Buy specific questions as well. But now I can laugh cause I am Best Buy Home Theater certified now.

Gotta tow the company line ya know.

They want their salespeople to sell the stuff with the highest margin. The best way to do that is to inculcate them with all the needed dogma to do just that.

I'll see if I can fir ya guess, but I would have to talk to my friend and probably screen-print all the questions and throw em up here.

I just find this whole thing humorous more than anything, because a guy who doesn't work for best buy managed to pass there certification first try, lol.

So true! Jersey people might remember Nobody Beats the Wiz many years ago. A year before closing, they had the same kind of "certification" tests for every area, not just HT.

I got a 100% on every exam, but it was a lot of marketing and BS with very little real technical knowledge.

Ito, tell BB you want a certificate. :D

hahaha, I really want too, but since it was my friend and they arn' suppose to get any help with their certification, I'll just keep my mouth shut towards them. The sad part is that the store by my house is currently hiring, it took them about a month and a half before I got my interview, which was a little over a week ago, and I haven't gotten a call back yet. Sadly, I know more about most of the products in their store than half of their employees do and I'm about 100% sure I'm not getting a call back. Kinda sad, if you ask me, but oh well, their loss I guess... I'll just have to live off of doing random assorted jobs for the neighbors and take business away from their geek squad by fixing peoples computer for far cheaper :D

You seem to assume that everyone here is familiar with the test. AFAICT, only the OP and his friend took it and really knows what's on it.

Since you already took it, you should be aware of your weak areas and perhaps lurking this site (or similar) and getting familiar with the search function might help you as far as some technical stuff. ...not to mention the AV university tech articles : http://www.audioholics.com/education/

Remember, some of us here can be your worst nightmare if we show up in your store and you don't know your stuff...

Second what Mark said.

Since it's a Best Buy test, the correct answer is probably gonna be whatever is most expensive...
