Decoding on receiver or player

Is there a difference in sound between receiver decoding and blu-ray decoding for DTS-HD?

I guess it depends entirely on which components are being used.

Say if I was using a Denon AVR-1610 and a Sony BDP-S360, should I have the Sony outputting bitstream or decoding it? Would the sound be very similar?

1. In the receiver, you have the better benefit of a better bass management, which is a big plus. But with an older receiver than can accept the new high resolution audio codecs through it's HDMI inputs converted to LPCM, the player that sends the audio signals don't loose any sound quality at all.
And if you don't have HDMI at all in your receiver, you can use the multichannel analog input with a blu-ray player that has multichannel analog output, and still get the benefit of high resolution audio, but with a lower quality bass management done in the player, if your receiver does not digitize it's analog multichannel input.

2. If you do get the Denon AVR-1610 (and you should), you let the 1610 take care of all the decoding and bass management.
So the Sony BDP-S360 would send the Bitstream audio signals.

P.S. You could also easily asked those two questions on your very first original thread.
Are you going to start another thread for your next question?

P.P.S. In my humble opinion, you have two threads too many.
Also, I suggest that you read some information about receivers, speakers, HDMI, blu-ray players, etc., about what they do, their features, and some basic knowledge about their operation. Not to be disrespectful, but you think that preouts are on the back of speakers, instead of receivers. You need a basic course, and for that, it's best to read some basic information on basic learning process.
It is only a simple and positive suggestion.

Hey titan, try both bitstream and pcm from the blu-ray player with true-hd, dts master and some non hd movies. Go with what you think sounds best. Maybe the audio characteristics are better with the sony decoding. Let us know what you find out.

That's what I think.

I think that using the Receiver internal decoders is preferable, as I just explained in my prior post. The Bass Management is much better inside a Receiver than inside the player. And besides that's what they're made for (Receivers), with their powerful DSP chips, Dacs and all the enchilada. :)
