Someone said it was available a week ago, but when I looked it still wasn't. Good to see that it is now.

Amazon has it on pre-order. I might wait for it to get released there on July 6.

Same boat can't justify the expense after doing the house refi, vacation, and taking 3 weeks off work.

It has been added to my amazon wish list.. -hint hint-

This player will likely take over the world... Nobody else is competing in the slightest (for a universal player). If you don't care about SACD or DVD-Audio then you have some better choices, but if you want a one-player-does-all... this is it.

If we didn't care about the SACD and DVD-A capability, which players do you think closely compete?

Panasonic DMP-BD60/80, Samsung BD-P2500/2550 and Samsung BD-P3600.

Also Pioneer BDP-51FD, and LG BD300, and Sony PlayStation 3.

My personal picks:

#1. Panasonic DMP-BD80 or BD60.
#2. Samsung BD-P2550 or BD-P2500.
#3. Samsung BD-P3600.
#4. Pioneer BDP-51FD (with the latest firmware).

* Any of these four are great performers, but the Oppo BDP-83 is in a class of itself.

Absolutely the very Best.

My PS3 has SACD support (original 60gb model). BD performance should be identical, the Oppo would beat it hands down for upscaling, but I already have an LG BH200 which has been compared favorably against the Oppo in terms of upscaling (AVS).

I see a lot of people buying the Oppo when they already have a PS3 or other BD player. For my own personal needs I don't think the $500 would be worth it, but can definitely appreciate that Oppo released an amazing product, just not for me.

Some people have money to burn, they don't care, they already own 3, 4, 5 players, just like me, and I still buy more. I just love it, it's a fun game, it makes me feel like constant Christmas. And why not, I work my butt off all my life, then I will die, but before I do, I'll make sure to go crasy while living. :)
