Hey all i am new here and am looking for help picking a subwoofer.I'm looking for a musical sub since i have a 2 channel set up, i also watch movies but only with 2 channels and no surround. My music system is an Adcom GTP 602 Tuner/Preamp,a Proton D1200 amp and a pair of Dynaudio Audience 72se loudspeakers. The sound is amazing, and i run the dyns with the port plugs in because they sound more accurate to me.I want a sub to fill the lower octaves and reduce strain on the main speakers. My main concern is sound quality, and i want a sub thats fast, clean, and that has active low and high pass filters.Right now i have my eye on a Dynaudio sub 250 and was wondering if you guys have any other ideas.Thanks.Jim

Welcome, Matt has given you some great subs that IMO will smoke the Dynaudio sub. I myself would go for the SVS...best of luck with your choice. I love the D 72e speakers, you have a very nice setup. Now, get some more posts under your belt and post some pics.....:D

I would also add:

Outlaw ECS-10

Epik Vanquish

Epik Dragon

Elemental Designs A7S-450

And, if your budget can accommodate it, the JL Audio f110

Don't forget to check out the other subs by Rythmik. I would also hit up audiogon.com for some Velodynes, you may be able to snag a DD series for a decent price, they are supposed to be excellent subs for music.

I have the HSU ULS-15 which I use for music, and it will give you precise, detailed bass no matter how loud or soft you like to listen to music. There is a sale right now on the piano black finish, and I will tell you that is one gorgeous subwoofer.

I knew this wasn't going to be simple..lol.So many choices.Do any of these companies have an evaluation period to try their subs in your house?

I know HSU, SVS, Outlaw, Rythmik and Epik have 30 trials where you can return it for a full refund. Outlaw will even pay for the return shipping. I don't know about Elemental Designs or JL audio though.

Hey guys thanks for all the suggestions and links.I ended up not using them anyway and got a Velodyne HGS-10.I just couldn't pass up the price of $385 shipped to me and it's in perfect condition.I know these had a lot of issues and made sure this ones amp was updated before i bought it.This thing sounds so clean with my 72se's and i'm very pleased with it.Just wondering what technique you guys use to level match your subs to your mains,i have an spl meter to use.Thanks.
