I read somewhere that for certain ht setups your better off connecting your subwoofer to the front L-R connectors & use the crossover instead of use the subwoofer plug, to get a better range on the subs.

One guy claimed that the extra work/wiring was well worth it.

The metric for determining whether you should do things 1 way or the other weren't detailed.

Considering I have this equiptment:

yamaha rx-v2500
yamaha.co.jp/english/product/av/products/ht/rxv2500.html
polk t90e floorstanding {front}
polkaudio.com/homeaudio/products/t90e/
polk rm 7500 {5.1}
polkaudio.com/homeaudio/specs/rm7500/

I imagine there isn't much benefit to doing the change.

are you talking about using speaker level or full range preouts?

The crossover that feeds the main speakers is FIXED. The variable crossover only adjusts the sub itself and has no effect on the mains. The ONLY time I would recommend hooking it up this way is if you have no preamp output. The person who told you this doesn't understand what they are doing.

Polk used to have an article on their site with this recommendation and considering Polk speakers were listed, I'm guessing that's where you read it. ;)

Back in the days when the sub pre-out on receivers had a relatively high (100 Hz or so) fixed xover, this recommendation would allow you to set the sub's xover lower because you'd be using the xover in the sub.

Nowadays, it's a waste of time and a whole lot of extra wiring for nothing.

The sub likely has a x-over that is 100 or 120Hz.

Polk recommended this hookup method for their small satellite systems because the satellites had a -3dB output of around 100Hz.

thanks for the comments. I'll just leave things the way I got it.

I didn't read no polk article, just a forum post in another site.

btw here is how it looks from behind and the crossover on upper left it turned all the way to 120hz

That one at least has a switch to allow a 80Hz or full range pass through, which is a nice feature.

It will speaker level connection method will work, but IMO it isn't a better method than hooking up via preamp level method.
