When you get a "thanks" or someone adds rep to you by pressing the little scale symbol thingy you get some amount of points towards your rep. You can add rep until it says either that you have given too much to one person or have given too much overall. Then you need to rest a bit before giving more. This usually happends after a spree of giving thanks randomly and then someone says something brilliant and you want to thank them but have run out of rep power. At least to me anyways. People with more green can give or take more points from you. There is some whipe on here that gives me neg rep all the time. On one hand you want rep because it makes you feel like you've helped or made someones day a bit... on the other hand you don't because it probably means your gunna be using your hand tonight rather than getting laid. So, kinda a balance there.
