Banana Plug HELP!!!!!

I can't recommend banana plugs from monoprice. I think they suck.

I like most of the monoprice products, but not the banana plugs.

The only kind of banana plugs I recommend are the LOCKING type - from Blue Jeans Cable or similar.

That's a serious deal you got on that truck, good job man.

Since you have audio on dvd and audio and video on everything else it sounds like the simple change of setting it to up convert should be the solution. By the way how do you have the dvd audio hooked to the receiver? Just simple analog cables or a digital connection?

that auto dealer is consistantly 3-4 grand cheaper than any local dealer anywhere in the country. If anyone would like the name of my contact there, just PM. You will not get a better deal anywhere , I assure you.

I ran component video cables from the receiver to the DVD player. And RCA audio cables from the receiver to the DVD player.

OMG is this annoying! Page 43 of my manual says to input assign, which I did, still no video signal! The connections are properly color coded and tight on both the receiver AND the DVD player. I have the DVD player input to component 1 and assigned it to component 1 on the receiver setup. This makes no sense. Nothing but blue screen - no signal. Ok, the only cable running out of my TV is an HDMI cable connected from the receiver (monitor out.) The DVD player is connected to the receiver via component video connection. How is the video signal supposed to get to the TV?


The upconversion happens automatically, doesn't it, once the DVD player is set up?

The HDMI cable should carry the signal. Do you hear cable TV through your receiver?

The recepticle could be faulty.
Is the HDMI monitor setting on yes?

I know you want to use the HDMI connection but we're narrowing things down.
At this point I must suggest you forget those thoughts about taking a blow torch to it. Just say blow....I mean NO.
If you still get nothing, swallow your pride and call Onkyo tech support, or post a thread in the Amps section, then I'll swallow my pride when they tell you how to fix it on the first reply.

The display on my DVD player says, "root." I set the HDMI to ----- under vcr/dvr AND the component video. The component cables are hooked up to the 3rd component video row, which reads "component video assignable." I still have audio. I think that "root" error means something. I do not have the catalog for this dvd player. It's a piece of crap anyway.

Exactly. it's a Memorex player and was a gift 5 years ago. I'm just going to buy a uni-player that handles Blu-Ray and regular DVD's. They have come down in price and there are models you can stream directly from Netflix.

Sounds to me like the dvd player isn't sending a signal over the component cables. You could always try the composite connection just to see if there's a signal at all.

Though I do like the idea of just hitting the old player with a nice hammer and getting a new player.
