Hello all. Is it possible to use just the Acoustimass 10 sub (not the cubes too) with the RX-Z7 receiver? If so, is there anything that needs to be considered?

Thanks,

It has propritary connectors and will not easily connect to the receiver.

Also, if you have the ability to buy a RX-Z7, you can do much better for a sub than the Bose Acoustimass. Look into JL Audio, Sunfire, Velodyne, SVS, Hsu Research, etc. for excellent value for money subs.

Yes, you can, but why? If you're going to be using something akin to "real" speakers, their freq. response capabilty may be better than that of the bass module. The only thing you'd gain is receiving an actual LFE output, but only within the module's capabity, which isn't that low.

Along with what was said above...

In spite of what Bose calls it, that's not a "subwoofer". It's a common bass box that tries to extend the range of those tiny satellites to match the range of a "real" bookshelf speaker.

IOW, it barely woofs and dreams of subbing. It ain't worth the effort.

As it has already been said....you have that beautiful receiver and the Bose acoustimass' unit will not provide you with anything but a muddy mess of something that resembles bass -- at best. You would have been wiser spending less on a still very capable AVR and looking to put money in speakers.

Nonetheless, to not sit here and continue the bashing of Bose....as had been said the module connects via a special connector which will make it difficult to work it out. t is time to start shopping for a sub -- any of the brand mentioned previously will be good places to start looking...

Even a Dayton 8 inch would be an upgrade and they are pretty cheap.
