We watched flick this last night. It seems we had a mixed reaction to it and differing points of view about its merits. It was certainly very 2001: A Space Odyssey-ish and I thought visually stunning. Acting was first rate. But.....

....what's your take on the movie?

I've had it in my Netflix que for months. Haven't had the nerve to push it to the top as of yet.
I'd interested in more opinions on it.

Nomo, I'll give you my opinion...but I was in the minority of those watching last night. It was a solid 4 star (out of 5) sci-fi, IMHO. Equally as good as the new Star Trek flick for me. But the lack of media/critic buzz about it puzzles me.

As I mentioned it has a 2001: A Space Odyssey feel to it and I found it visually stunning. Lots of LFE. I don't want to put any spoilers in here...but the plot itself and its implementation was the subject of disagreement amongst the viewers. Some liked it. Some thought..."okay". Lowest score was a barely-3 stars from my wife...who's judgment I'd question anyway, since she married me. ;)

I have it on BR but have not watched it though. I am a fan of Cliff Curtis so that alone makes me want to watch it.

Here's a thread about it:

I have it on BR, good flick!
Thanks, CHP! I ran a search but didn't come up with that thread before posting mine. It's pretty interesting reading the various opinions...as it sort of matched the discussion the four of us had last night after the movie. Everything from 'great' to 'uck'.

I'll admit that the plot's ending is weak and not smoothly transitional. But I still believe this movie is a keeper...for the audio and visual stuff alone. Yeah, there are lots of science goofups in it...like sound in deep space...but I'd rather have my subwoofers barking when stuff blows up, even if it's in a vacuum.

Suspend disbelief for an hour and a half, and it's pretty darn good.

Audio and video is first rate. Your Sub will get an insane workout for the whole movie.

Started really well. Drew me right in. Then became a total clusterf*ck with zombies and slasher plot devices. Really weak ending that just saps all the emotions that they spent so hard building for the 2/3ds of the movie.

"Sunshine" on blu-ray.

The blu-ray of "Sunshine" delivers a very polish picture quality with some great audio moments, in particular in the low frequencies.
And it was one of the first blu-ray to use the enhanced "Viewing Mode" (Picture-in-Picture) special feature.

I enjoy the movie.

what was the show about actually?
The sun is dying (fading), so mankind is facing extention.

A crew of eight man and woman are on a mission to ignite the fading star with a massive nuclear weapon.
And they'd better succeed, or we all die.

It was interesting and well done, but the end sort of came out of left field. It was like watching one movie for 1 1/2hrs and then putting a different one in for the last 1/2hr. It wasn't disappointing, as the first 3/4 of the movie is well done.
