Banana Plug HELP!!!!!

Try locking banana plugs from BJC, $5.25 a pair accepts 10AWG with two set screws per plug, never worry about loose connection again. Try moving speakers further apart and experiment with toe in till central image locks in. TV screen is like a giant reflector, listen to your speakers and not your room.

I don't know where your seating is but it looks like you have your 20's toed in pretty far. Try playing around with speaker placement. Try closer or further from the back wall. Also try pointing them right at you, then try over your shoulders, then almost staight ahead. One of those will sound best...more open, more or tighter bass, and better sound stage & separation.
Those are excellent speakers (I like them anyway) and you can get them to sound good.
I don't think there is much for Audessey to do with 2.0 but I suppose it couldn't hurt. You can always over ride it if it makes things worse.
I don't remember, are you planning on getting a sub?

Ok, I ran the cable box and TV to the receiver and it's golden. It's nice having the TV audio coming through my 20's. I did notice that the volume on the analog stations is significantly lower, though. Gotta find a way to balance that out. I watch mostly HD stations anyway, but still. I also preset the radio stations and assigned the call letters, so that when I listen to a station I see WBCN (for example) on the receiver interface. Pretty cool.

Still got a few things left to do, though. Gotta hook up my DVD player. That'll be a breeze using the component inputs. I need to secure my 20's to the J-29 stands (I have the bolts, but no allen wrench set) and I also need to put the carpet spikes on the stands. From there we'll start looking at Universal DVD players, preferably one that also plays CD's and a center channel speaker.

Ok, I ran the cable box and TV to the receiver and it's golden. It's nice having the TV audio coming through my 20's. I did notice that the volume on the analog stations is significantly lower, though.

From there we'll start looking at Universal DVD players, preferably one that also plays CD's and a center channel speaker.

I will tell you that out of the three or four houses I watch HD tv at the HD channels are always louder than non-HD. That's on Dish, DirecTV, and Comcast. I'm not sure why but I don't know of a way to even that out.

As for DVD players any of them will play cd's. Not all will play SACD's though. I recommend just going Blu-Ray at this point and using your old dvd player as a cd player if you don't want to use the new Blu-ray. Since I have two amps and two sets of speakers that's what I did, and it works out great.

I'm in a one bedroom apartment, so I only have so much space. The speakers sound very good. I know this because I do not hear them - I only hear sound Paradigms are amazing!

I have not put any music on as yet. I did preset all the radio stations here in Boston and I did listen to the some sports radio today while watching the final round of the US Open. I can tell you the first CD that gets played will be Dark Side of the Moon. Since it was recorded in quad sound it's a nice test for two channel.

Which way did you get your banana's to work? With the peel or without?

Funny, you mention that. I did mess around with the loop antenna and it did improve reception a lot, so I'm happy about that. Our sports radio station here is on AM and I'd be miserable without it.

As for the bananas. . . I went in through the hole on the side and then fastened the screw. It was pretty painless. I love the J-29 stands. . . I can slide the wires down a hole in the back of the stand and out through the bottom. Nice and seamless.

Yes, very perceptive. I am a huge Rush fan (no, I am not a drummer) and Neil is one of my favorite lyricists as well. While I do find him to be a bit of an elitist, he is a great observer and writer of life. I do not agree with him on everything (his treatment of fans is definitely a sore spot) but he is a talented man. Roger Waters is a better writer of lyrics, in my view, but his POV is just a tad too dark for me. In fact, it's downright dire at times. Whenever I listen to The Wall, I find myself very moody for a day or so after. It's amazing music, though.

Griff, I'm trying to hook up my analog DVD player to my system here and I think I am missing something. I have the 3 component video cables and two audio cables. I ran the component cables from DVD out to Receiver in, but got no video signal. I realized there is no signal getting to the TV - duh!!! So then I thought. . . ok, run the component cables from the receiver to the TV. But then there is DVD signal going anywhere!

Would a single video cable from "Monitor OUT" on the receiver to "TV Video 1 in" resolve this?

b/t/w. . . I have DVD audio, just no video.

I use the Bluejeans locking plugs and I am very happy with them, but a note - the split tips are fragile. I got a foot caught on a plug and broke 2 of them a week ago.

Npeart, I have used simlar ones to those you are using and have had mixed results. I have had some come loose and drop the wire over time behind the receiver. Those tips also eventually lose their spring with repeaded disconnect/reconnect which is why I switched all of my connectors on the receiver side to the setscrew/locking type.

The problem is the analog DVD player. I think I am missing a cable. See my last post.

Ok, I think you need to tell your TV that the signal is comin to it on HDMI 1 or 2 or where ever you have the receiever connected. Do this with your TV remote.
One night I leaned on my remote and spent an hour getting that straightened back out. Coarse I had downed 5 or 6 rum & cokes. Alcohol makes me smarter.
Do you have a cable box. Are you hearing any TV or movies or anything through your receiver? Do you hear the dvd's but get no picture?
Are you going from the cable to the receiver, then to the TV?
Sorry if some of this seems really simple but I'm trying to cover every base, and we haven't confirmed your Canadian-ness.

But seriously. . . yes, I am getting audio when I play a DVD. I can hear it through the speakers, but my TV screen stays blue - no video signal. So. . .I think you guys are right in that I have not told the receiver to upconvert. Must examine manual more closely.

Well, the 20's are v.4's and I got them for $630. As for the truck, well, I bought from Woodhouse Auto in Nebraska. No dealer in the country will cut you a better deal. They are the #1 Ford seller in the country. Nobody sells more Fords than they do.

Anyway, here is the truck I bought. Notice the sticker is $40,015. This puppy is loaded.

I got it for $27,900 delivered. That's right. They are driving it to my front door. Nebraska to Boston. They gave me $6,000 for my 01 Maxima (probably only should have got $4,000) and I got another 16% knocked off the sticker through negotiation. Not too shabby.

Since you have audio on dvd and audio and video on everything else it sounds like the simple change of setting it to up convert should be the solution. By the way how do you have the dvd audio hooked to the receiver? Just simple analog cables or a digital connection?
