+1 > But I figure that Mike knew that already. And Mike, living overseas, might not be able to find a good deal on the 805, even less to find it.
there's a 110v 805 available here that's about 100 bucks more expensive.

Might not be worth the extra coin if you intend to use it purely as a preamp/processor.
yup. current amp is a rotel rmb1077 powering two bookshelf speakers.
i'm actually considering removing that amp to get an extra shelf space.

the Onkyo 706 has a 12v zone 2 trigger. my question is, can this be used for zone 1 external amp triggering WITHOUT clicking on an extra button (i want it triggered the moment i turn on the receiver)

if the onkyo can't do that, it goes byebye. help?
I just cannot honestly answer that question Mike.
But I'm sure someone else will turn out pretty soon with the final answer to your final question.

Wow! At this point in the game, it is quite exciting! :)

All right, ladies and gentlemans, place your bets. ;)
What is gonna be? The Onk or the Den?

* Hint: the Den.

I knew it. You did pick the Denon. That was easy to figure out.

the front panel and knobs are freakin plastic man. i feel like i've downgraded.
(a little)
Well Mike, you did downgrade. ;)

The Onkyo TX-SR706 front panel volume knob, buttons and front plate are all solid aluminum, with a very cool blue light around the volume knob, and a very nice feel when you touch any part of it's front panel. Plus the front panel display with it's unique color add a touch of class, that tells people you are a very classy guy with good taste, money, kids, wife, friends, and education. :D
Plus the 706 remote control is much nicer and useful.

If I was you, I will immediately... :D

Cheers,

Bob

I'm pretty new to the enthusiast home theater scene so my opinion doesn't hold much weight yet but after doing months of research I picked up the 706 and couldn't be happier. I'm only running my PC and 360 through it at the moment and they both sound (and look) great, even on my old incredibly craptastic set of speakers. I'll be picking up some new speakers the beginning of next week and a Blu Ray player next month (I'll probably just grab a PS3) and I can't wait to hear what this thing is truly capable of.

EDIT: The blue ring is sexy
