Denon AVR-987 is the one to get.
Whats up everybody? total nubie here to the AV world. looking at these two Denon avr's. Both used at a good price. looking to set up a decent home theater and music room. read all the reviews on these two models but I'm to new to decide. it looks like the 987 is 110 watts X 7,hdmi inputs and output,....but I thought the higher model # usually means a better model like the 3200? Please help. thanks

The Denon AVR-987 is the 2006 model, and is the equivalent of the AVR-2807.
The Denon AVR-3200 is the 1997 model, very old indeed.
The model number with the smaller # (in this case, the 987), means that it is selling only mainly at mass market stores (three number digits). And in this case here, the 987 is the highest model of that line, and like I already mentioned, is the equivalent of the excellent AVR-2807. And the 2807, and all other Denon receivers with four number digits are mainly selling at mid-fi to high-fi stores.
But the 987 is basically the exact same receiver than the 2807 (just a different number).
And the AVR-3200 is just an old piece of museum history. Don't even think about it.
***** The Denon AVR-987 (or AVR-2807) was highly rated in 2006. It was even rated the best receiver by many audio sources.
So, if you have a good deal on the AVR-987, go for it, it is an excellent A/V receiver. Highly recommended.
