All kidding aside, it must take a lot of bravery to go though something this traumatic? And how traumatic must her life be to decide that this the solution? I hope it all turns out for him. But, wow.
I did know a guy who had the reverse done. She seems happy, but he never seemed unhappy before so I don't know.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Chastity Bono is having a sex change to become a man. A spokesman for Bono, born a girl to Sonny and Cher, says he "has made the courageous decision to honor his true identity" and began the sex-change process earlier this year. Publicist Howard Bragman said Bono is proud of his decision and hopes "that his choice to transition will open the hearts and minds of the public regarding this issue."

The 40-year-old writer, activist and reality-TV star came out as gay 20 years ago, Bragman said.

In the book "Family Outing: A Guide to the Coming-Out Process for Gays, Lesbians, & Their Families," Bono describes the realization of being "somehow different — specifically different from who my mom expected me to be."

A message left with Cher's representatives was not immediately returned Thursday.

Bono's second book, "The End of Innocence: A Memoir," details how relationships with Joan, a lover, and Sonny and Cher changed after coming out.

In 1995, Bono posed for the cover of the gay magazine The Advocate and began working for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD).

I had a teacher in high school who was male and becoming female. So, the year I got him/her I had to start calling it "Mrs." A lot of people, and even their parents, tried to switch out of the class and made a big deal about it. I didn't bother because I figured she/he would make up for it by being nice and make the class really easy. The sex change thing didn't bother me as long as I didn't have to work. Boy was I wrong, he/she came back as a complete b*tch. After about two weeks of that class I went to the headmaster and said something like "look, I realize that going through a sex change is a tough thing, but its not my problem and I don't need to put up with this attitude just because someone is having difficultly with their sexuality. I can learn when my teacher is a transvestite, but I can't learn when my teacher is just mean." I was one of three people to get switched out, out of the 20-30 that requested to get switched out before the class even started.

I'm sure it was a difficult decision for whoever this is, and I actually think its a pretty interesting topic. The sad thing is, around 2% commit suicide, which is about 20,000X the rate of a non-sex-changed person. Not to mention the dangers of taking hormones, having surgeries and all that.

I'm not sure how they would make a penis for this girl, or if that is even possible. I guess with modern medicine a lot is possible though

I honestly always thought that they used real ones from donors (probably deceased, but perhaps from someone going the other way). I never looked into it, though. Googling that scares me.

They were just talking about this on the radio about a month ago.

Apparently they take they Labia Majora and make that into the ball sack, then they stretch and elongate the Clitoris to make a Penis. Sounds crazy.
