Well in my never ending quest to buy some inexpensive towers I am now considering Energy C5 or C500's.
The 5's are like new but used and the 500's are new. The 5's are only $75 cheaper.
After much studying it seems the 500's, while being the newer replacement model for the 5's, are considered a sideways or downward move comparably.
I can only hear the 5's before making a decision.
Can you guys help me out. What are the stregnths and weaknesses of both?
Any other brand recomendations I sould check out? Used is fine.

Just demoed the Klipsch Ref 52. The price tag is $599.00 but salesman said he can deal a bit. I really liked them...a lot. I know that Klipsch is either your sound or not. I have heard Klipsch` speakers in BB, a friends home (Quintet SL) and the local Mom and Pop store. I never "thought" that I liked "bright" sound, but in all three cases, I loved it. In #1 and #3 I was able to switch back and forth from several brands from the same source and always came back to the K.

What are you going to use them for, two channel.....HT, both?

What size room? How much space?

What gear/components do you have to feed the speakers?

What kind of music do you listen to?

Are there or will there be subwoofers in the system?

I had the ELT Monitors and they were great speakers. Very balanced and looked great to boot. My concerns would include efficiency and Av123 has had some serious CS issues as of late. But the ELT towers are a lot of speaker for $299.

I'll throw another option out there. Check www.tsto.com and www.ac4l.com for some deals of Mordaunt-Short towers. Like these:

What were the other speakers you compared them to?
They beat Infinity Classias, Pinnacle Platinum series, and tied with a pair of classic JBL S-Studio series (of which I am quite fond). YMMV.

We also had a budget bookshelf speaker shootout last year that Yamahas won. http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52090&highlight=budget+shootout.

Concerning AV123 speaker prices...if it's too good to be true...it probably is. Given their many major issues, I'd stay plenty clear of them.

If the ELT 525's are in stock, grab them. At $299 a pair, nothing will touch them at that price. Yes, AV123 has had issues, but it hasn't involved the ELT-525's. Secondly, what a lot of people don't know is that AV123 owns, or co-owns a couple of speaker factories, eliminating one level of markup.

a serious savings online

Floor standing speaker deals are there,i read reviews of all under $1000 fl,st.spkrs!!
You should still find the infinity beta 50s for $500 a pair!!
I bought these awhile back and there efficient and 8 ohm @1 watt 91db
They are full range 3 way design, big, powerful, clean, not brite on highs, reviewed as the best under $1000 speaker pair,e-bay had a $500 price perpair price!
Steal!
Also recently i ordered the c-360 center ch spkr,$249, they quit beta production and went too the classica model, there not as marvelous because of the highs are a bit brite, not quite as clean sounding either!
I wanted the best sounding spkr, so no flat sounding reference monitor speakers for me!
Be sure to understand reference spkrs should be a flat responce, other speakers can actually make music sound better than normal,a slight sparkling midrange mixed w/clean midbass is what i prefere! WHAT DO YOU LIKE!
