Nice set up. Do you find the room to be a bit bright with all of the reflective surfaces?
yes, it kinda does, especially when the sun hits the wood floor. But at night with the lights on, it blends it beautiful. I guess it has to do with the paint color and the lighting. Thanks

LOL, yeah I got you now. Mos-def bro, the Soavos are for serious listening and now with the Sub. I couldn't be happier bro. The big Yamaha pounders is for anything that I throw at it, i,e music from youtube, watching movies online. Impressive how the Soavos produce louder, tighter and clean bass than the big pounders Yamaha.

Hello Yamaheart!

All I can say is, WOW! That's a lot going on. I'm quite sure the system sounds amazing. Being that you are without a dedicated center channel, are you using the phantom center mode of the Yamaha AVR to compensate? And if so, is the dialogue imaged properly?

Regards.

Thanks man, yeah not having a center speaker really sucks. Most of the time im using Stereo for music, music video, and karaoke. As far as Movies, I use the Movie mode and set it to the category the movie is in, i.e Sci-Fi. I know that Im missing out so much on sound as far as 5.1, 7.1 and even 9.1. As far as the dialogue goes, it is just fine from the main but who know what am I missing. Im still waiting to pay off some debt before I can go on and get me the Soavo Center and hopefully the Soavo surround speakers. Thanks

What not to like here! Great setup, beautiful floors, comfy couches, polar bear fur (wait a minute, where did it go?)... very nice.

If possible, move the rack to where the bin is located on the left side and move the sub into the corner and get that extra 3dB extension.

As stated before, definitely get room treatements, your room can use them without question. Also, maybe paint the air vent the same color as your walls (currently sticking out like a sore thumb).

You know what Agarwalro, that is exactly what I was thinking is to move my system rack to the left side and put the SUb in that corner and also paint that vent the same color. The reason I didnt wanna move the rack because my system is incomplete. I need a center speaker and all surround sound speakers. And also I decided to get all brand new cables either from Bluejean(exspensive), tartan(which is some what still exspensive, Monoprice(cheapest one) and replace them all and move the rack at the same time. I always wanted to do cable management for a long time now. Since im a neat freak.

Try this. It will get you started. Your floor really jumps out at me for starters.:) Hard wood floors are very reflective. Carpet is a good absorber. Then there are the walls. I see you have a curtain to the right, that would be somewhat absorptive.

Croseiv, you have a beautiful system there bro. I got so much more to do to my system, and needed lots of ideas from you all. As I can see the pics of your system, Croseiv. I saw that u have 2 acoustic absorbers behind ur main speakers. Is that all you have or is there more around the room? As you can see in my system, where is the SUB is placed at and the curtain is for the double door. I dont have a left wall, that is pretty much going out to the kitchen and dining area. If all I have to do is get 2 acoustic absorber like you, will that be good enough? Thanks

My floor is also carpeted. I'm working on some stand alone acoustic panels that are going to go to each side about 5'x2' mounted on a stand. I'm going to cover the brick areas on the fireplace too as it is highly reflective. As for the two panels you see, they have helped tame a very live wall some what for the better. I'm working on it.

One other thing-try the clap test. Stand in your room and clap loudly to see if you get any echos. I've actually found my living/listening area to be quite dead (echoless).

What is the specific model of the big Yamahas? I know that "NS-6XXX" and "NS-9XX" are not model numbers.;)

I did try the clap test but cant really hear any echoing or the echo bounces back to quick or something? But honestly I didn't notice any.

This site answers some of the basic questions, http://www.realtraps.com/faq.htm

There are several options, but the first thing to do is, find out what needs to be treated. Here too there are a couple options. Easy (non techy, but time consuming) Moderate (computer savvy, but super efficient) and Hard (you are not a true AH if you dont do this :D).

Easy: Get a RS Sound Meter and make the test tones CD from here http://www.realtraps.com/test-cd.htm The site also gives you the basics on how to measure the room response. Once you have a FR plot like this, you will know where the peaks and dips are and can start troubleshooting on what room issue is the most likely suspect.

Once you have the FR, start playing around with things like, speaker placement, toe-in, sweet spot location, etc. in conjunction with AVR built in room correction to get the best you can.

Moderate: Download a software like Room Eq Wizard to help you get the FR plot. It generates the tones and plots the graph and much much more. Now add room treatments to the Easy option and optimize.

Hard: Use Moderate approach but add a dedicated piece of equipment to do audio processing in addition to adding room treatments. Eg. Behringer DCX2496 or BFD 1124P. The software mentioned in the moderate solution lets you determine and up parameteric eq correction and you can apply them in the aforementioned devices and obtain the best possible room response.

Getting the right equipment is only scratching the surface of it. Getting the most out of the equipment is the fun and rewarding journey.

At the very least, get one of these. The wooden floors have a tendancy to join the sub in trying to play the bass notes. It terribly muddies the bass response.
