Related to the LCD vs Plasma question

Which display can one sit closer too, a plasma or LCD? I'm think about a 50" to a 52" screen. Here's what I'm looking at.

The new house I'll be moving into has a finished basement which is oddly shaped but still workable. Its sort of shaped like a U where the U the hollow between the lines (walls) is taken up by a closet under the stiar case. The left hand side of the U is 10" across. I have two options:

Option A: (blue option) I have a bit of I would stick my home theater is 10' wide so my main speakers would not be more further apart than 7' which would put my couch not much further than 10' away if I'm to keep the equlateral triangle rule...maybe more of an isoceles triangle with my couch maybe 10' apart and my speakers remaining at 7" apart. My surrounds would be placed on one pillar and the opposite wall.

Option B: (red option) Place the TV there and put the couch between the pillars but I don't know where I would put my surround speakers.

in regards to motion resolution and blur, a plasma would be better. LCD could/will cause an uncomfortable feeling at close distances. At your distance however, the effect would be lessened.

I like option C. where you place the display at the opposite end of the stairwell closet. That way when the projector screen comes you won't have to move the couch. Anything else seems like a situation of trying to put 10 lbs of stuff in a 5 lb bag.

It looks like you could leave 32" from the base of the stairs to the back of your couch to maintain a decent walk way and it wouldn't jam you up into the screen.

Options A. and B. don't leave enough room for you to be able to call yourself an Audioholic.

Your a genius man!!! I never measured the distance between the wall and the closet.. I hope its about 10' plus feet .. Then I have to figure out where to put the surrounds. My drawing is so far from scale

In that space I would put them on stands exactly where they are suppose to go in that circle formation.
I would call that 'whole hogging".

3db, you can try all of the options. Take an afternoon and move the speakers to all of the locations, and see if any of them simply sound better.

At 10 ft, THX recommends a 90" screen. To duplicate my preferred viewing angle, it would be a 106".

I'm not saying to get a 100" screen, but I just want to put in perspective that a 52" is not overkill at 10', let alone at a further distance. Just like I said in your other recent thread, get the biggest plasma you can possibly fit.

The resolution offered by bluray is something to behold. Really. It would be a shame not to be able to better take advantage of it by skimping on viewing angle, IMO. For example, here are some controlled comparative screen shots between DVD and BD of the cartoon Monsters Inc.
