Thanks bandphan i will look into it.

after reading a lot about subs, it is said that using multiple subs will be better than one so should i go with 2*$500 subs or should i go with 1*$1000 approximately? which way will be better for me?

You're in an apartment so I will suggest you just get a single small sub.

http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?homesubw&1248979186&/JL-Audio-F110-Satin

Is an excellent deal.

Of course it's stretching the budget though.
ok i will be looking for one small sub.

yes it is an excellent deal, but its too bad that i dont have the budget to get it right now cuz i spent over 3 times of my original budget for fronts and center :p

btw, comparing the fathom 110 to svs, epik, eD or hsu at around the same price, which one would suit me the best?

I would get the JL Audio, but my prefrences are well known on this forum. They make great products and the sub is more compact than the others. If you had a house with a dedicated theater I would say go for the SVS. But for an apartment you don't want a heavy huge sub. PITA to move and setup well. IMO.

ha ha i couldn't agree more on that. it would really be if i have to move from this apartment. another thing i'm considering now is WAF due to spending way over budget now its quite hard to convince her that i need a sub to fill in the bass. anyway, i found one local store selling JL audio here so i will go check it out when i have time.

JL also has ARO their "auto" room setup, which will aide in getting the best sound you can out of it without add an external eq.:)

Don't regret the WAF part it's easy to over do it in this hobby. Take the easy route if you can. If you follow half the stuff here you will likely have the best system on the block. My system isn't great from a audiphile perspective, but from an average joe it's fantastic.

i really like this option from JL cuz i won't have enough budget for external eq if i get a sub close to $1000 or more for f110

i've been reading lots of reviews for fathom series and it seems people do it for bigger models, f112 and f113. they both have good reviews but i haven't seen one for f110 yet.

is there any reason why f110 wasn't chosen for review?

Bigger subs get more attention. Also the amount of time that its on the market. For the price I'd take it over a velo DD 10

so the f110 will be as good as the bigger models, is that right?
Now ive got this question in mind; should i stick with my XQ towers and coming center for now and wait for more budget to get f112 or sth else??? will i get better bass and sound quality that way? Based on the speak fact that the more i spend the more i get, i'm not sure if this is true with subs too.

IMHO for your place, the f110 will provide enough spl and low frequency to satisfy.

thx bandphan you save me a lot of money :p

btw, do you know what the biggest space f110 would still provide enough statisfaction? just for a reference.

Your space is big but a condo. I'd say under 2500cu woud be ideal for a dedicated. You will be fine. I used my hgs in a similar sized room and it has less spl but slightly lower output.

It depends who you ask. If you ask someone like mike c, there will not be a chance in hell. If you ask someone who is only used to a Bose 123, they will have a heart attack.

IMO, the 112 is worth the step up, particularly if this is for HT. OTOH, as bandphan notes, in a condo, your neighbors will HATE you.

As for the ARO, it's not a very sophisticated thing. It just tames what it finds to be the worst peak (just one), at one position. When you run the test, you will scare everybody. I seriously, no joke, was getting pissedoff because I thought people were jackhammering nearby on the street, coincidentally with my calibration. I WENT OUT TO THE STREET. No jackhammer. I found it was shaking my kitchen window so violently, that is sounded like a jackhammer. I have the 113, and its best benefit is its efficiency coupled with more power when compared to 112/110. The 112 only gives up a single hertz of extension, so I call that a push, and maintains linearity much further up in register.

Anyways, I've since disabled ARO and simply rely on the Audyssey XT supplied in my receiver.

i guess f110 is really gonna be sth i get after my center. i found only one local store that has JL audio fathom series and the brand new price will be too expensive. i'm thinking about getting used one, may be from US and ship here not sure if the shipping cost tho. it's gonna be pretty expensive from its weight. Other than audiogon, is there any other good place to look for reliable used ones? if it really didn't work out, i might have to get a brand new sub within the price range that i can find in this area or Seattle.
