Where are you buying DVD's now

Where are you buying recent releases now. Walmart 19-20 each Amazon 18 or so but need to buy two to get free shipping. Bestbuy is kind of far away and not any cheaper. Only good thing about CC was the first week prices of $14.

I get mine at Target since it is on the way home from work. They also run specials on just released films. I like Best Buy, but since CC ran out of business it seems BB a monoploy on consumer electronics.

I get them, primarily 2nd hand, on Amazon. I refuse to give MPAA any of my money. If it isn't used, it isn't purchased.

I just rent them through NetFlix. Unless I really enjoyed a movie and feel I'd want to see it a few more times, I don't think spending 15-20 bucks is worthwhile.

If I really like a movie though, I will buy it. Usually on Amazon.

Stuff like Grandma's Boy, Tommy Boy, Requiem for a Dream, Trainspotting, Pulp Fiction, Training Day. Comedies that I would rewatch, or sometimes dramas that I really liked or felt are somehow important.

My movie buying has dropped significantly over the past 6-8 months. Part of it has to do with the fact that I've had little to no interest in many of the movies that have come out (or they just haven't been worth buying). Also, now that BD has been around for a while most of the really good BOGO deals that existed at the start have all but disappeared.

I've also been watching quite a bit more through my Roku box and through Netflix. For me, it's the best way to catch up on TV series that I never got a chance to watch. My wife and I have both fallen in love with Mad Men.

I netflix just about everything these days. If it is worth it, or a catalog release that I already know I like, I buy it. Frys or Best Buy (priced matched or only if on sale for a good price) locally, Amazon.com or Tower.com online usually.

I don't buy DVDs :D

Well, not much help here. I do utilize pawn shops for Blu-ray (I have a whopping six). I notice some good prices on e-bay for recent dvd as well as some not-so-good.

Interesting that we spend thousands on our home theatre but prefer to rent and wait until used dvd's become available. Not sure what that says other than I probably do not watch as many movies as most of you and buy most of those I watch. Apparently Amazon is still the good choice for buying new. I was just curious if any of you had a better place to buy from.Of the few times I checked, the used prices were not that much better than new prices on Amazon. However, these were on older movies that have been out for a few years.

Guess I will visit pawn shops more often.:)

The money that I don't spend on movies goes towards the gear :) I own 165 blu-rays and about 400 DVDs, so I do buy plenty, but far less recently.

TYVM. But I don't think so.

I just don't buy them anymore, and for already a long time now (over a year easily, even more).

Why get an inferior format? I'm way beyond that point now. This is called "point of no return". ;)

Lately I've been picking up sales on BR at Target. I'm a cheapskate and don't want to pay more than $20 for a movie. So I'll wait.

Yes, I think $20 should be max as well. I was just asking where people went for their purchases now. Instead mostly everyone somewhat haughtily derided buying new. If they feel that way then fine but I started the thread to see where those of us that do buy did so and at what savings.

I've been shopping at the Target in Vierra lately. They have BR's on sale every week for around $15. I picked up "Blackhawk Down" last weekend.

Walmart mostly. Standard DVD's only I don't have a BD player...or a HDTV for that matter. The first 2-3 days Walmart usually sells them for $14 and then they go up to the normal price.

Ok that is good to know. I just must not have been in Walmart the first 2-3 days for the sale price. Have to time food shopping for a new release of interest.

I think Tuesdays are release days.

I'll usually purchase from where it's most convenient, though I gotta admit there aren't many I would like to own. But usually it's Amazon, Target, or the local Freddy's. Mostly though I rent from Netflix, and if I liked it enough to watch over and over again I'll buy it.

Frys used to do the same thing, where on release day it would be a few bucks cheaper. They have since stopped doing that, but I still tend to go pick new releases up on release day. If they go on sale within 2 weeks, you can get the difference back.
