Enjoy the colorful pics!
Very cool! I guess that I'm not all that stressed.

I think that I have the opposite of ADD. Lack of sleep and a general disinterest sometime come across like I do have it, though. :)

Stress pics

My understanding is that some police departments use the images to test suspects and their anxiety levels. The more the images spin, the more anxious you are.

Well, you just passed the Federal Government Civil Service Exam.
Just send your resume and you're a shoe in. ;)

My oldest daughter has ADD, my youngest ADHD. They are both on medication to help them cope at home & school. Academically, my youngest struggles, but she’s getting better. My oldest is 12, doesn’t have a lot of friends and gets picked on a lot. My youngest has a hard time getting up & ready in the morning, and it’s been a huge issue. She says she “can’t even control what’s going on inside her brain” sometimes. She’s a good kid and is troubled that she isn’t more in control.

Both of them have growth issues because of their medication. Here I am trying to cut out fats & such for high cholesterol, and the kids doctor is telling us to load them up on calories as much as possible. He’s thinking of taking them off their meds for the summer so they can put on some weight.

...or someone slipped a few tabs of LSD into my food!
If you think that a large man is whispering into your ear and asking if you want to know why people call him "the monkey"...it's probably real.

RUN!

AAADD KNOW THE SYMPTOMS! Thank goodness there's a name for this disorder. Somehow I feel better even though I have it!! Recently, I was diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D.: Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.
This is how it manifests: I decide to water my garden. As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide it needs washing. As I start toward the garage, I notice mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mail box earlier. I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car. I lay my car keys on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full. So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first. But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first.
I take my check book off the table, and see that there is only one check left. My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Pepsi I'd been drinking. I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Pepsi aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over. The Pepsi is getting warm, and I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold. As I head toward the kitchen with the Pepsi, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye--they need water. I put the Pepsi on the counter and discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning.
I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers. I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the kitchen table. I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I'll be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers. I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor. So, I set the remote back on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill. Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.
At the end of the day: the car isn't washed, the bills aren't paid, there is a warm can of Pepsi sitting on the counter, the flowers don't have enough water, there is still only 1 check in my check book, I can't find the remote, I can't find my glasses, and I don't remember what I did with the car keys. Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day, and I'm really tired.
I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail....

Don't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, your day is coming!!

In all seriousness, it gets better. The growth speeds up, I never had any growth issues that I know of though, but I've heard its just delayed not stopped. ADD, especially innatentive ADD, is a lot different than ADHD, and you'll experience different problems as they grow up. I didn't have much trouble with my weight even though I'm on stimulants, but it really helps to decide when to take doses. As students the extended release stuff helps because they don't have to remember to take the medicine, but as they get older consider the immediate releases so they wear off a bit by lunch... it helps you eat more in my opinion, then you can take another one right before you eat. It all comes with playing with the doses, and, as they get older they'll figure out what works best for them but right now its hard for them to tell you.

Protein seems to help the stimulant uptake, and avoiding citric acid is supposed to help, but, is hard to do.

Finding a good doctor helped me a lot, I know how your girl feels about not being able to control whats in your head. They might need something to help them with anxiety too. The stims make you anxious, and if you don't help them with that, they'll end up self medicating before they even know what anxiety is. By the end of grade school I was self-medicating. As I went through life and met more ADD'rs, I found out they did the same thing. You can't focus and people are nagging you and on top of that your on stimulants and it just gets to be a lot. The ADD innatentives have it sneak up on them the worst, because everyone is watching the ADHDs ... So, watch the anxiety!!!! they won't know how to tell you.

Thanks for the advice man. I’ve had some pretty bad bouts of anxiety myself. My wife and I have both determined that we have some of the same components, and likely did growing up, it just wasn’t diagnosed as such. I was always tall, but thin. Even now at 47, I eat a lot but only weigh 93kg @ 2 meters in height. So, we at least know what it can be like, and we always encourage the girls to talk to us and bring up any problems they’re having. So far they’ve done a good job with this.

You must have been referring to me as one of those people :p

I don't take my meds of Sundays... and it always makes me whacky.

I got up at ten.

I went back to bed.

I got up at one.

I went back to bed.

I got up at three.

I ate a whole mess of food.

I went online... and wasted away two hours of my life before realizing that I had originally intended to post today.

 it rocks.

haha yup

How much sleep do you get during the "on" days? With the addies you can stay up as much as you want, and then if you take a day off its like getting hit by a train. I've been trying to get 8 hours. If I time the "crash" for when I'm gunna go to bed, it actually helps me sleep because I get exhausted.

I was diagnosed with ADD as a kid. Before I took ritalin I was the worst kid in my class. Afterward I was one of the best kids. I don't take it now and refuse to take any drugs period, but any stimulant will help with focusing. Even caffeine. I notice when I have caffeine that I do a lot better in video games. Usually I can't focus at all. But with caffeine I calm down and my logical mind takes over. Still I don't like the effect on my mind. But I will urge you to keep them medicated and make sure you get a very good doctor. Mine was great. Teacher's have a hard enough job they don't need your kid to be one. They may suffer withdrawals this summer. So keep an eye out. Knowing you I imagine your youngest is bored.

Oh Diet didn't work for me. My mother tried it and my teacher begged her to take me off. I think I had more energy from eating healtheir lol. :D

I have it and nothing works for me. It used to be pretty bad where I couldn't focus in class or do homework for more than a few minutes at a time. Every prescription/stimulant makes it about 10x worse so I can't sit down for more than about 5 minutes.

So to force myself to get used to it/over it I made myself read some really long books that weren't really interesting. It worked too my ADD is controllable :)

Consider me the Jared Fogle of ADD.
