Receiver/Speaker problem

Ok, I am new, I have a Harmon/Kardon AVR125, Boston CRC, Boston CR65's and HTD in ceiling in rear. I have a 8' basement ceiling, my listening area is about 15-20 feet away. Now, I am on a serious budget(wife induced) but I would like to upgrade, the main reason is I just don't get the clairity from the center and the center/mains just don't match? I've tried to adjust the receiver but no go. could my speakers be to small for the area or the AVR? Any insight???

Crank it up, man...

I'm kidding... Describe your clarity problem.. movies and dialogue I assume?

What is your budget?

Do you have a sub?

How do you have the AVR setup/crossed over?

Do you have to keep the wife? :D

Upon further review... those speakers are pretty dang small for the size of room you have. You're a long ways away from them. You're really pushing that center pretty hard.

Whats the percentage of use for movies and music? Upgrading the front stage to something more efficient could really help.

Do you have a pre-nup?

You need towers IMO. Your room is pretty big and the Bostons are small.....I would look into towers but thats me. What is your budget for speakers?

Yes I do have to keep the wife:D No I don't have a sub yet, I've setup on the AVR many times. The biggest problem seems that the center (for movies) the clairity/fullnes is not there, I have to turn it up then down and the CR65's don't stand out. I've played with the adj/size/volume ect... I'm wondering if the AVR is crap, I've heard the bostons(I know these are low end) at Ultimate Electronics when the were open here but mine sound like crap! My budget is 300 for now (1000.00 over the summer) Start with receiver or speakers first?

I use them mostly for movies. If moved upto larger speakers would I need a larger reciever or just better? I have seen some good deals on the Polk monitors, what do you think?

I would start with speakers first then choose your AVR to suit........

Agreed.

For movies you'll need a sub.. adding a sub will also not make your fronts play full range or at a crossover point that muddies them up. I'd pick a budget for a sub and save til you can get one you like for that big room. A DIY option might work really well for ya. You'd be surprised what a difference that can make in the HT experience..
