hey im running 16awg monster standard THX certified speaker cable allround, but was told for my fronts (CV VE-12f, 300w) and my reciever (tx SR-503 onkyo, 130w x 7 @ 1kHz jeita) i should have atleast 12 awg wire. the cable i have is slightly larger than other standard 16 awg ive seen, and is half copper, half silver (not sure what the metal is) interwoven. its only a 1.5 metre run to my fronts, so would there be any gains to using a standard 12awg ofc copper wire over what im using now, Thanks guys in advance!!!!

www.monoprice.com(get your speaker cable there)

The only reason I would change is to get rid of the monster cable.

true... its so cheep though... might as well switch out all your wiring... :) or if you had a 100' roll you would have more then enough left over to phase out your old wiring...

You must not use wire like I do. 100' wouldn't last long for me.:D

lol.. i was just thinking because he said 1.5 meter run... so x2 thats around 12'..? so he would have about 90' of a 100' rool left for phasing out the old monster crap... so maybe about anouther 4' for a center, then you have 80' or so for rear surrounds... :)

Not sure what that works out to in USD$, but I spent about $1.00 per meter for 14/4 wiring which is rated for in-wall use. (sorry all - it IS Monster CI-Pro cabling, but it worked out to LESS than Monoprice price levels!)

Just use 14 gauge cable all around. All pure copper cables give the same fidelity.

Short answer: if you have the wire in hand, use it, nothing wrong with that 1.5m run and 16ga.

But, next time you need more wire, please stay away from Monster as the company lives up to its name, they are a monster.

wellllllllllllll

yeah as stated i got it free!!! i have looked at other monster products and been disgusted at the price. plus the damn guy at the store i got my gear (harvey norman) tried telling me there was a huge improvement in the monster sub cable over the shielded one im using now. i hate it when someone looks you in the eye and lies!! when i took my old cerwin sub to be replaced after it failed (fourth time) i had another guy i had never dealt with telling me the sub was fine and my belkin surge protecter was the problem , and that i needed a $350 one to fix it. i asked him how he knew this when he hadnt asked my system specs or what model surge board i was using, or what the fault the sub had was, and he went blank!! I turned to the guy i usually dealt with and said i never want to talk to him again!! he was shocked!!:D:D

www.bluejeanscable.com will ship internationally.

you can even buy the exact length you need.

at 1.5m

14 gauge will do, but 12 gauge would be cool :)

OR you can just buy what's available locally ... wire is wire.

Next time ask them if they are psychic:D

Yes, 'free' is very good:D
Monster had a very bad business practice of bullying anyone who dare to use monster in their business name. If you missed it, they tried to sue a mini golf course franchise and Bluejeans for design issues. The latter has a long message here someplace:D
