As being fairly new at all of this, I need to ask another question. I have noticed that depending on the input to the receiver, the volume I need to set at to maintain the same audible level changes. For example, when I watch TV, it is set at 15 to 20, then for Blue Ray, 20 to 25, and the DVD (same as blue ray player) was 35. I have the onkyo 606 if this helps you to help me.:)

That's typical. Those different sources (TV, DVD player, Blu-ray player) are sending signals at different levels to your receiver. Different discs will often have different levels, too (at least in my experience), so one movie might need to be turned up or down to have the same volume as another.

If your TV volume is also controlled by the volume setting on the TV like mine is, you can adjust the volume on the TV to better match one of the other sources. That's what I do with my system.

The IntelliVolume feature of Onkyo receivers is meant to help with this situation although it is not necessarily a perfect solution because as Adam said, levels differ even between discs (think '80s CD vs current CD).

Assuming the TV, BluRay, and DVD are all connected to different inputs on the receiver and using the example numbers, you'd bump the levels of BluRay up +5, and DVD +10 (I think the max is +12). That will get things relatively close in most circumstances but then again all bets are off if you play a modern CD in the DVD player because now it will be even louder due to the bump from IntelliVolume.

Wildly differing levels are just a hassle we have to deal with.

Hehehe, tell my wife that. When watching HD TV, the volume of commercials is always out of wack, and it annoys her to the point where she is bugging me to do something about it :)

I tried using the audyssey dynamic volume feature of my Denon with no success. I think this really is something that we just have to deal with until some standard is put in place for broadcast TV as well as studios when mastering AV content.

I'm looking forward to Dolby Volume up and running on my D2v, just a firmware upgrade away, I hope its soon...
