Saw this on TV at the gym yesterday.

http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2009/05/birmingham_police_beating_vide.html

Cops beat the hell out of a man after he crashed his car, and was thrown out of the vehicle after a high speed pursuit.

There is no doubt that this guy was a menace to society and belongs behind bars, but I CANNOT excuse the beating of an unconcious man. This is the kind of stuff that makes me hate cops.

I just got a ticket last week for going 46, (according to the officer), in a 35 mph zone. I don't think I was going that fast, and I was last in a line of 3 cars that were all going the same speed, so I was just going with the flow of traffic. Thanks a lot Mr. Sheriff. I'm sure the city of Los Gatos is much safer with you cleaning up the streets of us dangerous speeders.

Gimme a break, Blossom Hill road is a four-lane road and 35 mph is RIDICULOUSLY slow for that area.

He almost killed a cop in that chase, I'd be a bit pissed too. All five were fired so it looks like everyone got what they deserved.

That happened over a year ago, I'm sure the officers were disciplined already.

These kind of posts just seem a little over the top. Police officers are people too, and I'm sure after a 3 city chase they were running a little on edge. They shouldn't have hit the man obviously, but stuff like this is not out of the realm of possible.

In all honesty that man was lucky he didn't die.

True. The guy was an idiot and had no place in society, but he was just laying on the ground, not moving. I can see one, maybe two cops hitting him once or twice before they realized he was unconcious, but at least 3 cops hit him about 5 times each. What is the point of hitting a dude that isn't even concious? All they had to do was slap some cuffs on him. Probably the easiest arrest they ever had to make.

I could understand if he was fighting back.

Adrenaline and stress will make you do some crazy ****. I'm sure if they "planned" on beating his butt they would have turned the cameras off or aimed the cruisers a different direction.

LOL

"Dude, after we pit this guy, let's beat the crap out of him."

"Sweet dude, sounds like fun."

"Just remember to turn the dash-cam off."

"No problem."

After beating the crap out of the guy.

"Whoo, I'm beat. That was fun though huh?"

"Sure was."

"You turned the camera off right?"

".............................. crap."

I saw the video and I think the beat down (not saying its right, but I understand) came out of the suspect hitting the cop that was throwing out the stop strip...

Anger management?

Some can handle the stresses of the job better than others, looks like there are five less on the force that can't.

I'm sorry, I just don't have sympathy for the thug. What the cops did at the end of the chase was not right but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

The next interview question...

I think one of the questions they will start asking potential cops if they are familiar with video editing suites like Final Cut Pro.

Maybe Apple should come out with a variant called Final Cop Pro. They would have automated editing widgets that would take out such things as:

Multiple cops beating someone and make it look like they are simply trying to 'help the perp up'.

A cop has some one in a choke hold is actually performing a Heimlich Maneuver.

A cop is planting evidence is actually just a concerned LEO picking up some litter.

The cops knew they were wrong so they covered it up. It wasnt until a year later when the tape got out that the 5 cops involved were fired. The cops are supposed to uphold the law no matter how angry they get, and to often they act like they are above it.

What irked me about seeing the video was seeing the driver try and hit the cop who was laying down the stop sticks and he did in fact graze him (knocking him down), so this guy has no respect for the law or human life and I am suppossed to be upset that he got a beat down. Hell no. In fact I wish a few more cops had used the night sticks and tazed his butt too. Anyone who tries to run anybody over (cop or not) deserves an arse whupping and he got it. I want you to think what if you were that cop who got hit, what if it were your wife, child or best friend, would you just casually go up to him after all the adreneline and the chase and seeing your buddy get hit. And you see after the van flips and this waste of human space is ejected, the cops were right on him. There was no time to even evaluate if he was conscience or not (it was that quick like 2 seconds). So the officers who know this guy is so willing to get away that he would try and run over a cop, of course they are going to give a beat down. I would to. Heck if I were on the jury I would ask the defending lawyer, if his client who was in a felony car chase and tried to kill an officer is really surprised that he got beat.

If I were a criminal I knowingly commit a felony, I better expect the consequences. Is it right. No, but then again neither is some douchebag who is going around commiting crimes and trying to kill people with his car. I'm sorry but I have no sympathy whatsoever for any nimrod who commits crimes and then tries to kill people, least of all officers.

And this coming from a guy who never really likes officers but even I would put the beat down on anybody who tried to hurt or kill one of my friends.

I would have done worse................ The guy got off easy. The cops showed restraint for not beating him worse.

Kudo's to the cops...... thumbs up!!

Seriously, I have no life.
How about that Texas town that made 60 minutes or something recently, where they arrest you and the family and take away all your money without any charges, or for speeding. Threaten your family and usually the black folks only.

Never talk to the police. Never engage them. As long as you keep your mouth shut you chances of being screwed are low. Open your mouth and your screwed.

I've had first hand experience with Ukraine Police.... in Kiev.... and it was not a pleasure

My offense was that I am a foreigner in their country,
So they're just after money..... and if you don't give them money they will hurt you... very badly....
Violent and dangerous people, never be out after dark alone in that city

Well, you can say that I learned my lesson the hard way.... Like I always seem to do....
well, just be careful in those cities :p

Gotham city seems like a safe place now....

Never talk to the police. Never engage them. As long as you keep your mouth shut you chances of being screwed are low. Open your mouth and your screwed.
Some places this makes absolutely no difference, the police may attack you. and assault you....... even if you're just walking away..... and bring you into a station
And perhaps they're not even police, but guys pretending to be police...... You never know.....

Those people are scary, well scary is just the start of it, really.....
