Need suggestion on my setup upgrade (speaker and receiver)

I need your suggestion on my setup, please.

Setup:
Receiver: Sherwood RD-7500.
Speakers: 2 JBL E30
Subwoofer: ESW-V8 (recently purchased, I haven't received it yet).

A friend of mine suggested that I upgrade my receiver and speakers, to match my subwoofer, because they're not in the same league.

He suggested Energy Take Classic 5.0 speakers ($199 on sale) and Onkyo 607.

I know it will sound better... but since I'm in a tight budget I need to justify the improvement I will get.

What do you guys think?

Are you intending to end up with a 5.1 or 7.1 system for video/music or a stereo system for music only?

The Onk is a 7.1 avr, not meant for stereo music.

Your friend has a made poor suggestion IMO. Take Classics are good only for surrounds with a very limited Frequency range. So your current speakers are superior. Sherwood also makes very nice receivers. Since you only have an 8inch sub I'm suggesting you stick to music with it. Unless you just have the itch for home theater.

If you want to upgrade your speakers the Behringer 2030p's are highly recommended.

So, my Sherwood RD-7500 is still fine to go with Behringer 2030p's? Will I got a significant improvement with this speaker upgrade?

The only reason to upgrade would be to get the new HDMI formats.

I don't suggest the 607(overpriced atm). Look for a deal on an Onkyo as accessories4less or ebay. You can get a very cheap extended warranty for ebay here.

Look for a 705, 805, 905 etc. Anything below 400 for any of those receiver would be a steal. You could also check out the HK store. the 254 is a very nice musical receiver IMO.

If you want better speakers then the 2030p's are the best budget ones according to Wmax. They have very good build quality and with a few mods can be turned into Hi-Fi speakers.

Do a price match using google shopping's lowest price and zzounds will beat them.

For HT subs a DIY project will net you the most bang for your buck.

the 2030P speaker is a much higher quality speaker than the others you are considering. This is not my subjective opinion; it is my conclusion after measurement and physical analysis: they are quantitatively superior by a substantial degree as compared to anything else I know of anywhere near their price range. In addition, you can do basic/cheap mods and improve them even further.

Perhaps you just need a friend upgrade
You've got some good stuff for this price range. You state that you're on a tight budget, so just stick with what you've got. If you were starting from scratch, the 2030's would be great, but you've already got speakers way better than most small satellite speakers.

My advise is to be happy with what you have, and to learn more, so that you can better evaluate the advise given you - including mine

Any AVR with 2 or more speaker outputs is still meant for stereo music. It all depends on how the system is used. Not what necessarily what is not available (i.e. 2 speaker outputs and not 5 or 7). Stereo only receivers are typically found in the very low price range and lacking on build quality.

The Onkyo would be fine for the OPs usage.

So you're saying that an AVR shouldn't be used for stereo music? That's a unique take. An AVR like the 607 will work fine for music and give the option to expand into a home heater later.

I do agree with these that say that a 607 is too new to really get any kind of a deal on but that's a different question. I also agree with the suggestion to find a refurbished 805, 875 or 905 because of the extra reserve power, but those are getting few and far between.

I'm also going to agree with the idea that the Take will make fine surrounds but I wouldn't use them as mains. I'd much prefer mains that will go down to at 80hz comfortably.
