Need a subwoofer to complete my setup

So I just got a new receiever(pioneer sc-05) and Speakers(Polk Audio Monitor 60s, cs2 center, 2 omw3s). Now all thats needed is a subwoofer. I listen to 70/30 music/movies. My budget is $700. My room is 24'x18'x7'. I plan on getting a second sub eventually. I am a car audio enthusiast and know it will be very hard to reproduce the same punch in the chest bass I get in my car, But am looking to get as close to it as I can. The few companies I have looked at are SVS, ED, and AV123. Any recommendations for a car audio guy looking to shake his house down with bass would be great.

Coming from the car audio side too....I would have to say, I haven't quite qeunch that bass thrist yet since the days of my youth with car audio.

I have been looking into the Rythmik, HSU, SVS. I would skip on AV123 for now until their amp issue is resolve. For the money, MFW 15 offers a good value but with amp problem...it's a wait and see.

With a budget of $700, you can look at Velodyne subs. DD-12 or used DD-15?

Paradigm Servo also sound *really* good.

Very nice set-up! I am sure you are enjoying the SC-05. ;);) Anyways, I wrote up my sub experiences here:

In there, I think you will find some useful info. Nothing like making a well-informed decision. Given your specified requirements, I would have to recommend this:

http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/vtf-3-mk3.html

However, as bandphan pointed out, there would be no comparison with Matt34's deal. Those (2) subs would easily walk all over a single VTF-3 MK III. That is, provided you have the room for both of them. The VTF-3 MK III is not small by any stretch of the imagination. Anyways, good luck with your decision. If you have any questions about my review feel free to ask. Just send me a PM or ask right here. Either way, I will try to be of some help. :);):)

Cheers,

Phil

Well after reading all day at work and talking to the guys at HSU I think my decision is made. the VTF-3 MK3 is in my price range and I can add a second one in a couple months. Hopefully I will be placing my order this friday after pay day and will post my impressions of the sub once it arrives. thanks for the help :)

Congrats on your decision! ;):);) Remember, Hsu did offer a 5% discount for returning customers if I remember correctly. Anyways, looking forward to reading your initial impressions. Hope my review was helpful to you.

That was my first choice. But now after doing some more reading here and on a couple other forums I may go the DIY route. One thing I love about car audio is the installation and box building. maybe a couple maelstrom 18s with the right amp would be my best bet.

I guess I will just keep spending much of my workday on the forums reading till I decide on what to do :)

From what I understand its hard to beat a DIY sub "if" its done wright but this much I do know if you go with a commercial sub SVS is hard to beat for customer service and performance combined for the money. I couldnt be happier since I was introduced to SVS and to this day it ranks as one of my top/best choices I've made for my HT :)
