Well considering you can get it for 390 on a google search and 320 at

http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/ONKDVBD606/Onkyo/DV-BD606-Blu-ray-DVD-Player/1.html

I think not.

I love Onkyo products, but I would suggest a PS3 instead. The PS3 is by far the best blu-ray player in the price range. Nothing sub 600 dollars even compares. The hardware is sold at a loss. Meaning it's being sold below the cost of building the system. If you just want to avoid the PS3 like the plague then an Onkyo at 320 would probably be decent, bu I still think it's overpaying for blu-ray. I love Onkyo products, but there is a point that loyalty has gone to far. I think you are being stupid if you buy that system. There are plenty of better blu-ray players on the market below or at the cost of the Onkyo. It doesn't even support DVD-audio for crying out loud.

Any Blu-Ray player plays movies with crystal clear picture so if you are concerned about quality of the picture you have no need to worry.

PS3 does not support bitstream audio output for external decoding, only internal Dolby TrueHD decoding output as 7.1 PCM. Additionally it does not support DTS Master Audio. I have a PS3 and will be buying an Oppo BDP-83 as soon as they are available.

Well, I found these (2). Of course, they are user reviews and not professional. However, sometimes you can get a general idea about a certain product by reading them. Here is a link for you:

FWIW, I would not pay that much myself. Look at the Panasonics or as Jamie eluded to above look at the Oppo. Hope this is helpful. I will look some more for you. Good luck in your decision. ;):);)

Cheers,

Phil

Here are a few more user reviews. Here is a link:

This link shows it for $270 which I think is a good price. $550 is way too much but for $270 I would feel that is fair.

Now I must say my Oppo is on its way and I feel it is the best choice for the one stop player right now. If you don't care about multichannel outs, profile 2.0, DVD-A or SACD and the Onkyo is only a little over half the price of the Oppo's early release price and maybe more when it hits the general public.

And the problem with this is? It's always been my understanding the result would be the same whether the receiver or the PS3 decoded the raw bitstream. The receiver still has to convert LPCM to analog either way, so it should make no difference.

Additionally it does not support DTS Master Audio.
Actually, it does. It is now capable of decoding all HD audio formats available on Blu-ray. DTS-HD MA was added a few months ago into the firmware updates.

+1. Apparently someone hasn't been keeping up with the times, since it seems like it has been longer than just a few months since that happened.

Try a few months ago plus a year. It was like March/April of 2008.

One thing the newer Korean players have that the PS3 doesn't is Netflix streaming. That's not something to be discounted. The PS3 is no longer the king of Blu-Ray players. Sammy's newer players are.

I would skip that Onkyo. Is it is even profile 2.0?

Avoid Pioneer Blu-Ray players like the plague--even the new ones have playback issues with newer discs. Pioneer has become the new Samsung of the Blu-Ray world.

They are working on getting Netflix on the PS3, so I wouldn't call that one a thorn it it's side.
