I am not sure what you are asking. You already have gear, are you wanting to upgrade other than the PC? Are you happy with the sound of your HT? Why do you want to upgrade are the speakers not doing it for you anymore? Just wondering

I am looking for something more minimal
is 5.1 really necessary when u can go 2.1?
it will used for games, movies, music, etc

Jamie is asking good questions. Now is a great time to sit back and decide what type of system you want to have as a final project and work towards that goal.

I myself like 2 .1 but many on these forums swear by 5.1 ,and 7.1. I would suggest figuring out a budget then asking us with your budget posted so we can make educated suggestions....

The Hsu sub is a pretty good choice and can last until you get serious about bass. I would spend $500 on your two personal favorite speakers.

I will upgrade the polks to a 2.1 system once I sell them
I will buy these - Bose 161 or Infinity 2-Way Bookshelf Speakers (P152)

Agreed, the only thing from Bose I am 100% satisfied with is the Aviation X headset.

I have to agree with Jamie. Bose isn't equated with good sound quality by anyone but their marketing department. Simply put their quality is extremely low for the price you pay. The best 2 speakers you can buy below 500 bucks are probably the Behringer 2030p Monitors. With a few mods they can be made to sound like hifi speakers according the Wmax. Search threads with his name and the speakers to get more information.

Aesthetics aren't great for those though. If you are aiming for the best sound get them. If you want a good looking pair of speakers I suggest you look at SVS sounds. They have nice finishes. Another option is the speaker company. Free both ways shipping.

KEF iQs are very nice too. Go for the 1s for music listening.

You can find many other suggestions by searching through the forum. There are no shortage of good options.

Bose sadly isn't one of them.

Going from PS3 to computer? we have a HTPC section check it out. Maybe you can add to it. It's a fairly new section here.

You may be better served staying away from some of the mainstream commercial brands. The Behringer mentioned above is one good example of what you can find outside the consumer herd. Another example is the Usher S-520 which has been well-reviewed by Audioholics editors. In my own experience, I find the Epos ELS-3 to be a great sounding budget bookshelf speaker well within your budget.

The main page of this site is a great place to do some research on other options. Here is a link of a budget bookshelf comparison that also has links to other relevant articles. http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/speakers/bookshelf/budget-bookshelf-shootout-2009 Searching the forums here will also yield a gold mine of information and experience on many other choices.

IMHO, Bose speakers are not worth the paper their speakers are made from.
