More adventures with an H/K DPR 2005!

I swapped out my Onkyo TX-SR606 with my old DPR 2005 just to test it and there is a terrible hissing in the rear left channel and a bit in the center. I am wondering if this could be anything other than a problem with the amp. I'm more curious than worried at this point. Anyone had similar experiences that could define what this is? I am using optical if that is relevant, but it makes the same hiss in any input.

Also, has anyone had experience with H/Ks customer service/repair policies? I don't have a warranty or anything as it was a floor model. It looks like it was dropped at some point but at the time of purchase it worked flawlessly (they will probably say I dropped it and broke it and refuse to repair it don't ya think?). Basically, some companies have really nice, generous customer support and some are the opposite. I want to know what end of the spectrum H/K lives on and if it's even worth nurturing the tender hope of a repair/replacement.

Hi Akoma,

I'm going to be very honest with you right from the bat.
Get your Onkyo TX-SR606 back, and get rid of the Harman Kardon.

I had so many problems with HK in the past, plus I read too many horror stories.

Why did you swap with the HK in the first place?
Your 606 was not satisfying for you?

At the price of the 606 right now, I'll say it is an excellent deal and a fine receiver. And the 607 is only $375 now, not much more than the 606, but the 606 might be better for you, depending on the set of features you are looking for. I bet that you can get the 606 for about $299 right now.

So, make the final swap for the best this time around. :)

Bob

Note: I'm pretty good at fixing electronics, but I failed with some Harman Kardon receivers.
And if you have to paid someone to fix it, just forget it. Simple advice from me, just stay away from Harman Kardon, pure and simple. But that's just me, and I know a thing or two...

Sorry if I confused you, I own both I've just had my H/K sitting on the shelf for the past while. I just changed it over for a day that's all.

Thanks for the advice though. I am planing on moving up from the 606, just not in the immediate future.

Thanks Akoma, I guess I just confused myself, it's not you (well I hope not). ;)

Anyway you got a response from me and that's what counts. :)

Keep in touch till you're ready to upgrade. Or for any questions that you might have.

Cheers,

Bob
