I'll say two things. First, the chart for the box sub shows a flatter response, which I think is a good thing. The response in your room will be different, though, so real-world differences between the cylinder and box might not be that noticeable.

Second, I have one of their cylinder subs and love it. I have the PC13-Ultra, so it's a bit bigger than the one that you're looking at. I really like the form factor. I went between getting a box or a cylinder for over a year, and I'm happy with my choice. Many others are very happy with their SVS box subs, too. I don't think that you could go wrong either way. It's just whatever seems best to you.
Indeed, makes lots of sense to me!

Prefer the box myself, has more weight, more solid. I wouldn't be surprised if that thing hits >100dB in a small room like mine. Good thing I'm half deaf and could make use of it LOL

Found a comparison on the SVS site anyways... http://www.svsound.com/questions-faqs.cfm#cylinderorbox kinda states similar ideas compared to yours Adam :)

Once again, the pooch saves the day! (Gonna start looking for that picture in forums from now on if I want useful info) :p

And now, ordering the sub and spending over $600... *cringe*

Here is version 1.0 of my pc based 5.1 system. KEFs all around except for an Aiwa powered sub (yuck) driven by an Onkyo TX-SR606 via an Auzentech X-plosion 7.1 Cinema sound card (using optical). Haven't decided what to replace my sub with so any suggestions would be nice (I've always liked SVS tho).

Nice setup there Akoma!

Nice ceiling format you have there, looks like it could possibly sound better than a relatively high and flat ceiling like mine?

Also does hiding your center channel behind your monitor affect sound quality?

Having the monitor in front slightly muffles/baffles the sound though I currently have it set on top.

As for the ceiling, I am not quite sure of the full effect it has on things, but I have noticed an increase in bass (had to turn my sub down). It certainly doesn't sound bad (to my ears). I have to control environment to compare it with. I suppose I could set it up downstairs in the living room (10' ceiling) and see what difference a flat high roof makes but that's a lot of work. Maybe on the weekend.
