We don't often get first looks as early as we have for the Elemental Designs A7-900 subwoofer. They don't even have a production model yet! The pictures we've seen are of a constructed but unfinished cabinet. But what construction! Two inch thick in most places, bracing everywhere, and dual 18" drivers... it boggles the mind. The footprint might be only 26" by 27.25" but it stands 49.5" high! Powered by B&O ICEPower... this thing is going to shake your house! Now call some friends because you're going to need help moving this ~400lbs monster.

Any wonder why the rest of the world considers us to be the epitome of "wretched excess"?

I'll take two also.

They have a video of one of those things being built on their web site. Maybe it's the predecessor, but they show it going through their CNC system and a guy using boatloads of glue to fasten it up, clamp it down.... The thing's ginormous (that's a technical term, but feel free to look it up if you need to).

But you guys are right. You should get two. You know, dealing with room modes and all. You could also mount a row of theater seats on it and have a combination Butt-Kicker / subwoofer.

Too bad the thing's so danged ugly. I hope the production models have a little bit more grace in the enclosure's final design.

At the risk of going off-topic a bit I think my next "DIY" project will involve ED building me a box for my sub(s). There prices are pretty reasonable for a custom enclosure. I think a couple Mal-X in a similar box to the A7-900 would be insane.:D

But the REAL question is: can it best a Bose Bass Module?

Why would anyone suspect that the Boso Bass Module was anything but the best? After all, they pair them up with those awesomely incredible 2-inch paper cone in a 2 and a half inch paper-thin plastic cube full-range driver.

I hear they have AWESOME mid-bass!!!!

I'm sure it is an awesome sub but @400 lbs, and 5' long (or tall) it is a bit of a placement challenge. Last summer I ordered a custom (at their suggestion) A7-900 on a Thursday and was told 3-4 weeks to build it. After thinking about it over the weekend, I emailed and called back the following Monday to cancel the order. They responded on Tuesday that it was too late as they had already designed and cut the wood for my custom unit and custom orders can't be canceled once the wood is cut. If I wanted to cancel, I would have to pay for the wood ($175 as I recall).

I complained as it seemed odd to me that as such a busy company with long build lead times that they had jumped on the design build of this custom monster sub so quickly. Sans proof to the contrary, I had to take their word on this and ended up paying the “fee”. Lesson learned …

I'm not sure if this thing would beat the Boso in sound quality, but I'm pretty sure if you place it on top of one it would simply Crush it :)

What a great service you'd be offering the world... Kind of like stomping on a cockroach.

I have the Keiger Plate amp on my sub. Looks like the 1300 is a rebadged 1000. Mine only powers one 12" driver and that same amp drives 2 18" drivers, is that sufficient power? Just asking.
