Just updated pics
added mineral wool.
made cutouts for handles and speaker terminal.

One thing i learned is to use a router to cut the speaker cut out, I used a dremel and had to do a lot of shaping with bondo to get it looking right.
I would of saved a lot of time with the router, even though I read posts saying to use a router i was just being stubborn.

Other then that going well still have no idea how i am going to finish the exterior, vinyl? Piano black paint?, vaneer?
really want Piano Black but after reading sounds like lots of work which i dont mind doing, but if it does not come out right that would suck after
putting in all that effort. Still researching the idea.

Just started to read about vaneer i was thinking of maybe doing the sides with it and paint front not sure yet.

Think thats about it for now.

I have spent a lot of time Reading up on how to get a piano black finish, and it seems like it is not the easiest thing to do especially if you do not have a spray gun.

So last night I email about 3 body shops in the area asking for an estimate on painting the box.
I only received one reply so far with an estimate of around $75 which seems low to me but I will compare it to the other estiamtes that I receive.
Any of you guys know how much this should run to get it painted the size is 17"w X 42"D X 18" D
I will have it sanded ready for paint.

If i could get it done for around $100 i will go that route, even though I originally only wanted the front painted with a piano black finish, I figure if i want to change it later i can always cover the sides and top with something down the road.
This weekend I plan on putting the back and bottom panel on, the weekend after I will router and start sanding.
I will keep you guys updated with pics.

From my understanding piano black isn't that hard. It's just a lot of work.

Basically you paint the thing with Glossy black and then wet sand it with 200 grit sand paper.

You have obviously not attempted this then before :D

This is much easier said than done.

Just about finished with the building part now.

Next weekend I will be rounding the edges with a router and then sanding.

Still not even sure which edges i want to router, it is hard to picture what it will look, the last thing i want is to router an edge and then not like it!

Then I have to figure how to finish it, I am leaning towards having a auto body shop paint it as of now.

I was able to router the edges over the weekend.

Now I will continue to toss the finishing ideas around in my head, i am now wondering if it is still possible to cover the box using something like vinyl ect... with round edges. how would you meet the seams neatly on a round edge?

You have to stich the seams.

I have no idea what that means but Andrew said it was difficulr when he did my sub.

Any custom cabinet maker/formica counter top fabricator can do the lamination work and or veneer finishes, try the yellow pages locally.

A true, glass smooth glossy piano-grade finish is not in any way 'hard'. It's just incredibly laborious and time consuming. :)

You had better start with MDF not ply for one thing - ply will just double the efforts you must make. Even with MDF - it's very much a long process.

But I guess this depends on what someone considers a piano finish. Some people do a sloppy, textured gloss finish and consider this a 'piano finish'. LOL. Remember, it's hard to see the nasty flaws in finishes with most DIYer low-resolution pics.

The only easy way to get a piano finish requires a clean-room spray booth and special (hard to get, expensive) epoxy paints(which require professional spray gear) that go on very thick and settle smooth. Some polishing/buffing still required usually.
