So if you ever want to hire a new crew member :D
Its tough out there right now. I know a whole lot of very good guys sitting at the moment. Bands are not touring as much this year......
I was going to say the same thing regarding a personnel management position.
(Pushing people around. :))
But they probably have a line of banana heads ready to do that for ... peanuts.
Ha !!! Bet you thought I was gonna say bananas. :D

Hey Jamie,

Thanks for the pics.

I have a question. Do you like the sound in the "open theaters" like the one in your picture. I'm sure they all sound a little different but what building configuration do you like and what don't you like. (sound wise)

As I'm sure you know in my area we have The Mann Music Center and the
Susquehanna Bank Center (formerly the Tweeter Center) that are open. How are these venues in your opinion.

Thanks,
Doug

ps My favorite place to see a show in the Philly area is The Tower Theater in Upper Darby, PA.

Hey Doug,
My favorite places are open air venues such as Red Rocks in CO and The Gorge in Washington state. As we are all well aware of reflections affecting our HT rooms, but outdoor venues like the Mann and Tweeter both have roofs which when you are running 180,000watts for 20,000 people the pa is huge and with that comes SERIOUS room eq and time alignment.I say that the most important part of ANY show is the tuning of the room.I spend about an hour and a half tuning the rig before line check. I have seen many shows butchered buy sub par engineers. It is a sad fact that there are a ton of "friend of the band" soundguys out there and if you have been to a crappy sounding show you have witnessed this firsthand. Indoor venues like the Tower in Philly are great because you can stick a grip of PA in there and basically overpower the room without ear bleeding volumes. As far as arena's go my favorite are Madison Square Garden(just for history alone) the Spectrum in Philly,Nassau Coliseum in Long Island NY, Market Square Arena Indy, Staples Ctr LA are some good sounding venues. Ampitheater wise I love mixing Merriweather Post in MD ,Blossom music ctr Ohio, Riverbend Ohio, Greek Thr Berkley, Greek Thr La,Saratoga Springs NY,Jones Beach NY, Tweeter Ctr Boston(formally Great Woods),Coral Sky Fla, Desert Sky Pavilion, Pheonix A few more I guess but mainly ampitheaters that have bad roof designs suck for mixers and if you have a bad engineer mixing the show, sucks for the crowd as well.Sorry to go into a spewing madness mode but thats my answer Doug....:D

Thanks Jamie, I enjoyed your response.

I've only went to the Mann once. James Taylor and it/they was great. Went to the Tweeter center once also to see Rush. They preformed great. the sound was ok and the lighting/video screens were weak. We had seats in the very last row under the roof on the left side facing the stage. I bet that last row under the roof thing had a lot to do with the sound being worse than the 3 time I saw them at the Spectrum. The lighting and video was bad because of all the ambeant day light. The show started at like 7pm in the middle of the summer.

oh well.:)

Thanks again,
Doug
