2 Dayton Sub-120 or 1 SVS PB12-NSD

Title pretty much says it all. Room is not very big, don't have exact measurements and I'm at work but I would say roughly 15x15x8 and opens on one side into the dining room. 70% movie and TV 30% music.

Maybe even 1 dayton sub-120 would be enough?

Any thoughts much appreciated.

You can buy a book at Wal-mart.... not to sound coy or smart, but its called "Installing home theater systems for dummies"... sorry about the title, no disrespect intended!

Go with the SVS pb12

I'm going to go with the SVS option. If you already had a 12" Dayton I would say that getting a second one would be a smart move because ~$200 would put you in the 2 sub game but at this point where you haven't sunk a nickle into anything I say go with quality. Down the line I'm thinking that you'll expand your budget to include a second SVS but that's only if you have the first one.

I recently chose to set my sister up with 2 Dayton 12"'s but that's because there was no way in hell that she was gonna spring for a second SVS down the line. So to summarize; 2 is better than 1 IMO but 1 good one on the way to 2 good ones is what it means to be an Audioholic.

Be sure to let us know what you decide and pic's are appreciated. :)

Your ft^3 is very close to mine and we both have an open side.
I have a single Dayton and it easily plenty loud, of course loud doesn't equal quality/accurate. I have no qualms recommending the Dayton to someone in that price range, but it's not going to be in the same league as the SVS. If your budget allows buy the single SVS. It will have plenty of power to fill that space.
If your currently without a sub at all and you buy the dual Daytons, you certainly wouldn't be disappointed. I was amazed at the difference it made in movies and found myself going back and rewatching scenes just to experience them again.

I would think a single Elemental Designs A2-300 would give you a great inexpensive starting point and would likely put out more than enough for your room size. You can add the second if you need more later. Then you would have dual 12" subs for not much than the PB12. I don't think the output of the PB12 could even come close to two ED A2-300's.

For the money, I'd still go with the SVS. A square footprint room will be a problem for bass no matter what your choice is and 2 subs might actually be better if you have the freedom of placing them anywhere. In this case though, I would say the PB-12 would be more than enough for a room that size and you will get more accuracy than with the 120s.

Thanks so much for the replies. My original plan was to go with the SVS but then I got to thinking that I could get 2 daytons for roughly 200 hundred less. Glad I asked. I recently upgraded the infinity tss-800's i had with an old set of BA VR30's and VRC center. I am unfortunately still using the sub from the tss's. Just not cutting it.

Thanks again.
