I'll throw out the option of a couple of Rythmik subs.

Dual Epik Sentinels would be similar in pricing to the SVS Ultra.

Ideally I think what WmAx suggested is the optimal setup if I had the money (and patience) unfortunately I do not.

I have tossed and turned about getting two PC12-Plus or one PC13-Ultra but I think to do the two subs correctly I would need to invest in an external crossover which I do not have the budget for considering that the two subs is close to my budget.

I called up SVS and talked with them for quite a bit (on 2 separate occasions, I'm sure they are tired of me) and based on my volume (4500cf) they feel the one ultra would be plenty and with that I ordered the PC13-Ultra and now can't wait for it to get here. Longest wait ever.

I am definitely interested in the DIY subs though, I think I might tinker with a small one for my bedroom or office and work my way up.

Thanks for all the info, can't wait to unpack the ultra (might have to take a day off work).

Id go with a single PB13 and then you can always add another later if you feel the need . I love my Ultra and dont have any regrets :)

I went with the cylinder so its only black. I went that way even though I have the space for the box because it was cheaper, more portable, and if I do add a 2nd the footprint will have a factor (assuming I didnt stack)...plus it matches my maggies perfectly so it will blend nicely.

Cant wait to get it and play with it. Anyone have suggestions for calibrating it? I bough the SPL meter and have an Onkyo TX SR703. I am sure there are plenty posts on the internet about it, but has anyone found one in particular that is easy to follow/understand for a novice? Thanks

There is a list of good drivers on the AVS Forum.

A very simple build would be any sealed sub design. Sealed subs are better for music. For a small sub you have a few drivers to choose from and since it's a sealed music sub your options are limitless.

Pick up an SMS of Audiogon. They are go for 300 usually. It's a great tool for evening room response and much easier than the DCX2496 which is the hardcore pro approach. You can also use a BFD which costs less than 100. You will need some other equipment to integrate it with your 13, but it is great tool for in room response.
