My viewing of that movie last week on my S-550 was perfect!

It was a Netflix disk.

Do you have the latest firmware on your player? You may have gotten a bad disc too, but that would seem to be rare.

Look at the disc in bright light. How smudgy and dirty does it look? If dirty, use microfiber cloth + water, and clean in a radial direction.

Your title does not seem to be listed in this thread, at least not in the first post.

I see that you have a Panasonic player. They are VERY good, from what I have experienced with my own, and from what I have read as far as their FW support and plain old playback. I've only updated three times out of countless FW updates that were offered. Just never really feel the need. But if you've never updated once yet, it might be high time.

the disc is clean, i always check em. i found a flaw in it. have to look at it "just so" or it will not be seen. magnifying glass shows a 1/8" long dimple.

the player has not been updated afaik. i tried today, via LAN. idk how to get the settings correct, so it didn't work.

I just briefly looked at this support thread, and someone said your player already does it automatically if left connected.

I have the older BD30, so I simply burn a disc. It's pretty easy, though the first time I was having issues. I think I've been using Roxio but can't quite remember. You can just do the same. Worst case scenario, there might* be a chance that Pana can send you one, though maybe it takes a while to get to you. Or sometimes, a helpful forum member can send you their's after doing it already for themselves.

You can check the current FW on your player by following these directions at Panny's 35 FW site:

Step 1. Check the firmware version currently installed in your BD player

Follow the steps below to check the firmware version currently installed in your Panasonic BD player.

1. Steps Turn on the main unit.
2. Press the [SETUP] button on the remote control to open the display menu screen.
3. Using the Up and Down cursor buttons on the remote control, select the "DISPLAY" tab - "DISPLAY" items will appear.
4. Press and hold the [STATUS] button on the remote control. While doing so, the current firmware version for your player will be displayed in the lower right hand corner of the screen (e.g. "1.1").

Not as rare as you might think. I've gotten a bad disc before.

I bet it's the disc.

I've only had one BD that wouldn't play and it was a due to a firmware update needed. None of the purchased discs I've gotten have been an issue with physical problems, but some of the Netflix discs that show up need to be cleaned. I have gotten bad CDs and DVDs a number of times though.

I've only had one bad disk and it wasn't a firmware issue. Since they sent me a replacement and it worked. Gotta love Netflix though.

i am on the 1 per netflix plan. i called and told them the issue. and they are sending another death race. on top of my next selection. so i think i will wait to update the player, just to see for sure if it was the disc.

Sounds like a good plan.
