turntable ground question....

after using the same JVC QL50 table for about 20 years, I've recently downgraded and sold off a lot of my vinyl. I was given a Technics table a while ago by some clients of mine that was literally never used. I pulled it out today to hook it up and pack up my old friend, and realized there were no interconnects. I'm not sure I've ever seen a female ground wire connector like this before....can anyone direct me to what I need and where to get it?
I feel silly asking this, but I've always had an internally connected ground on my tables in the past.

Without knowing more about the TT itself it's hard to offer concrete advice.

I've never seen one like that either. It looks like a plug for a 1/8" mini plug.

Are you sure it's a ground?

Are you sure there wasn't a threaded knob that used to be there? Maybe it was removed all the way and got lost by the previous owner? If there are threads, you can just find something with the same threads and use that instead.

not sure what else it could be......and I'm pretty sure it's larger than a 1/8" mini plug...

The model is SL-D20 for reference. My first table back in '79 was an SL-D1 and it was internally wired.

looking at it very closely, there are no threads.

I'd call Technics USA and see where to order one. I'm sure they have a parts department.
I knew this would be the place to ask....I'll call them tomorrow and see what I can come up with.

Thanks a bunch!!:D

actually, now that I look more at that cable, it's not the one either. The pic of the ground jack is just a "punched" hole in the chasis.....and it probably is a 1/8" jack. Mine actually has an externally visible recepticle.

I bet it's the same as the E-Bay one ..........

Yours is just a better Quality or better Model Table.

Sure that's not just a banana jack?
I guess it's a possibility....I thought it was a little small inside diameter though. I'll check into that. I also have a note into Panasonic about it.

I just got a turntable and ground wire termination is like a small banana. If it were me I would put bare copper in there and then make sure that it has contact by wedging the wire in with a round tooth pick with like 1/4" cut off the end to get past the useless pin point. Maybe a drywall screw hand threaded in there and then turned an extra 1/2 turn with a screw driver to get it past hand tight.

I have a local electronics shop that I would check and I know that there is a local shop that sells used records that I want to locate anyways so this would be all the motivation that would need.

Just get it grounded and play something already. :)

If you want to see if it's a mini plug for size, see if you can insert a headphone or earbud jack into it.

If it snaps into place, go to Rat Shack and get an 1/8" mono mini plug and solder a wire onto it and you'll be in business. If ya wanna get fancy, crimp a spade lug on the other end.

But first, did you try it without a ground? Sometimes they work fine without it being hooked up and you'll have gone lthrough all this for nothing.

it's not a 1/8" jack as I've noted in other posts. it' goes in and stops at the "shoulder" (about 1/8" onto the pin)

I'm sure I'll figure something out, I just like to have things "right" and was hoping it wouldn't be this hard. I got a generic reply from Panasonic this morning taking me to a page where there was no such part. I'll call them later on. Obviously there are lots of "rigged" ways to go.
