Folks, for the last several months I have been really busy assisting my Mom. You know, taking her to all of her doctors appointments and then to the hospital for lab work, X-rays, CT scans, and PET scans. Still yet, the daily treatments of radiation and bi-weekly treatments of chemo. Needless to say, it is a bit overwhelming. But not to me, I am referring to my Mom.

For the last (2) weeks my Mom has been in and out of the hospital. In fact, she was in ICU and then moved to Telemetry and back to ICU. It seems as there is no end to it at times. However, my Mom was having a very difficult time breathing this morning and once again had to go back into the hospital.

When I arrived at the hospital this morning, I was shocked with how bad my Mom looked. She is having a very tough time breathing on her own. The nurse told me that she basically did not have any lung capacity left. To make matters worse, my Mom has pneumonia. Folks, I am really scared to death for her! But, I don't want her to suffer either. Sadly, the nurse went on to inform me that w/o the oxygen mask on her face that my Mom would likely pass. In other words, it won't be much longer and my Mom will pass. :(:(

In short, just wanted to update everyone here that has been so supportive throughout this long journey. Many of you have helped a lot. So much so words can NOT even begin to explain how much it has meant. Without any further delay, let me just say Thank You and you guys rock! ;);) Right now, I am not even sure my Mom will make it through the night. Therefore, for those of you who believe in prayer please say one for my Mom. It once again would mean so much. Sorry, if I sound a bit depressed, but after all it is my Mom. She is AND has always been my best friend-my rock-the "ONE" I go to when I need comfort and understanding. I am sure you all understand where I am going with all of this.

Cheers,

Phil

Phil you're in my prayers man. It's time for the suffering to end. Your Mom lived a good life and now it's time for you to carry on her legacy. Celebrate her life. Don't just mourn her loss. I suggest a list of all the wonderful things she's done for you and your family.

Sit down and thank her for everyone one of them. It will be a tearful but a wonderful time.

Phil, I know hard this can be. The hardest part is that things are mostly beyond your control at this point. The best I can suggest is that you be with your Mom as much as possible. Stay with her. Comfort her and hope for the best.

I am so sad to hear about your mom. My mom passed from cancer 10 years ago and it was a very tough time. If I would give you any advice it would be to have as much family around as possible so you can comfort your mom and each other. God Bless......

Wow Phil, I had no idea. I’m sure you already know this, but it bears repeating – Where your mother is going defies definition. For certain, there is no pain, no strife, no worries, no sickness, no bad feelings…and on top of that, she will be a guiding force in your life for the rest of your life in ways you can’t even imagine.

I pray for peace for you, your family, friends and those charged with taking care of your mother. Seek solace where ever you need, it will be there…and here.

You and your mom are in our prayers Phil.
Sounds like the two of you are close; find some comfort in that fact. Many people haven't had half the relationship your mom has given you.
It sounds like she has been through so much, and I'm sure you hate to see her suffer.

My wife and I are very sorry for the sad news.

Regards,
Rick

This is a tough time. I've been there with my dad. Years of him struggling with congestive heart failure left him a shell of the strapping 6' 1" tank of an army guy. There's so many emotions... sadness, anger, guilt, selfishness... you name it. It's all there.

I feel for you my friend. I'll be thinking about you and your family.

Thanks for your kind words as it really helps lift my spirits. Right now, my Mom is doing a bit better. Some of her meds have been changed around. As such, she will have a bit more time. However, it is only a matter of time. Appreciate your prayers. ;);)

Thanks a lot for your kind words. I have already been doing some of what you suggest. That is, been reminding her how much she has and still does mean to me. Most of the family was with her today. As a result, she is a bit better and has some time left before her passing. For that, I am forever grateful.

Cheers,

Phil

Thanks Dave for your support. To be honest, that is really all I can do. Just be there and let her know I love her. It just hurts seeing her gasping for air. So many things that are out of my hands. However, I remain hopeful and will to the very end. :):)

I am so sorry for you going through this. As you mention, it is really hard. Cancer is a dreadful "thing" that afflicts so many. The entire family was with my Mom today for the most part. Very good advice. Thanks for your support. :):)

Thanks for your kind words. It looks like she is doing a bit better than expected. Some of her meds have been changed. Basically, it just gives her a bit more time before her passing. Just thank God most of the family got to see her AND the fact she was aware of their presence. :):)

Cheers,

Phil
