Kef iQ70s + Sony TA-F3A?

I was wondering if hooking my KEF iQ70 towers up to my vintage Sony TA-F3A would be a good idea. My Onkyo TX-SR606 doesn't have a phono input and I don't have a pre-amp. Any thoughts? Also, any suggestions for a new turntable are welcome (currently using a Yamaha P-25).

Yes, that is a transformers poster.

P.S. Is there a vintage thread? Searched and didn't find.

I'm pretty sure Phono inputs are simply RCA type cables. I'm fairly certain that you can hook up the player to any RCA inputs.

The amp has around 50 watts from what I saw on a forum somewhere. I can't verify the accuracy though.

A phono input amplifies the signal greatly and it seems to be a pretty rare feature on modern receivers. I suspect this is due in part to rarity of the medium but also the fact that most if not all modern turntables have some sort of built in preamp. If I were to just hook it up like say a cd player I would barely hear a thing. But yes, you are right, it is just L/R RCA plugs.

Seems like a good option and lets you keep the good player. I'm no expert on turntables nor do I want to be. I have no records. I'm a CD man, but like you my format is dying too. I'm really sad about that.

Oh yeah and nice speakers. I love KEF drivers.

No, they don't. Some do but not that many. The high end ones definitely won't because it would be hard to upgrade it.

If you really don't want to buy any equipment right now, plug the turntable into the Sony's Phono input, connect an RCA cable from the Sony's REC OUT to one of the Onkyo's AUX inputs. Iit has an input labeled 'Phono', use that to keep it simple by setting both to Phone and never changing the inputs on the Sony. You can turn the Sony's speaker switch OFF if you want and hte volume control won't do anything, so leave that at minimum.
