Budget minded shopper here, I want towers up front since I have a small child and figured they would be more stable and less likely to tip over.

My two choices:
Paradigm monitor 7 towers then eventually add center, sub, surrounds - Is this worth waiting for?

I also thought about just getting some polk audio towers from frys w/ matching center, surrounds - this would probably be much cheaper.

Would I be able to tell a big difference in these two systems? Any other recommendations?

Not if you went to that Paradigm dealer in Edmond, OK.:D

I went there and listened to the Paradigm Studio 100 towers, and I was disappointed.

I think the acoustics & speaker placement is bad or something. They used a Yahama receiver (3800?) + Yamaha DVD player and I had the receiver on Direct Mode too.

Just make sure you can RETURN the speakers if they don't sound good in your OWN room.

Go listen to the speakers, then post questions. You need a reference point of what you like.

For instance, I did not like the Monitor 7 at all. I wanted something with a lot more clarity and detail. You, on the other hand, may be very happy with the monitor 7.

my budget recommendations are the Infinity Primus 362. Sometimes Fry's has a great deal on em, but not now. The HK store sells them though and for 120 each they can't be beat. Plus you can pick up matching surrounds from the Harmanaudio store on ebay. I wouldn't worry about a center at first. Get your sub and surrounds next. Read around here for other ideas. The speaker company has very nice packages.

I found the Paradigms very average until you hit the Studio line and then it's a whole new ball game, the Sigs made me almost cry.

AccuDT's ears are ruined from the DTs so pay no attention to him. 100's do like a lot of power though and sound boring and flat without it.

Go listen to all the speakers you can find in your price range.

I know exactly what you mean. Right now I have Studio 100's and Signature S2's. I'm trying to decide which set to keep. I love the extra sparkle with the 2's, but have an instinctive love of tower speakers. I'm on the fence right now. Have to do some more critical listening.
