Yeah, they're the theatrical versions. I don't care, I'm getting them. $70 (or less) is worth it to me, even if it just ties me over until the EE versions.

I'll wait for the EEs. After seeing the EEs, the Theatrical cuts just don't do it for me. Move over Dark Knight, I am sure these will take top spot for copies sold.

Yep. They are buying some time while they prep the EEs, but I am sure they aren't going to be hurt by making some extra funds...they KNOW there will be plenty of people who will pick these ones up.

sweet. I don't know if I can wait until the EE's are released. Of course, I'm sure my Pio 51fd will get all buggy and lock up incessantly with these movies.

I'll probably wait for the EE too but it's going to kill me. All I have on hand are the "full screen" versions.:eek:

That's why we have Netflix :D I gave away my theatrical cuts and I have the EEs that haven't been watched in at least 2 years.

I hate that they’re dinking around like this:mad: - just release the extended editions and be done with it.

I've been watching once a year as well. Usually sometime during the summer. Maybe by the time I upgrade my display, the BD EE version will be available.

My dad, sister, and I just watched EE RotK a few weeks ago. That's a damn marathon!

As my 4 year old once told me...

"It's the way I want it, or not at all!"

So I guess it is EE's for me.

I fully agree.

The biggest factor in "compromising" now is because, well, I've been uncompromising. I have refused to watch the DVD for at least two years, waiting for the BD. My brother, gf, and friends recently watched the trilogy. If I found myself over there in the middle of it, I then soon found myself leaving.

I fully expect an awesome experience in my theater. In fact, the timeline that I aimed for in getting my bipoles and ceiling mounted rears up was before this was released. Ok, I knew I had TONS of time, but I did just get that done.

Question for the EE diehards: If you knew that the director's cut was coming out, would be superior, would you still forgo seeing these movies in the theater when first released? Ok, it would be your only choice available as the theatrical release, but you get my point.

Anyhoo, I will look at these as an identical reliving of my very memorable in-theater experiences. They represented my favorite in-theater experiences since Silence of the Lambs, I believe.

No, knowing the EEs were coming would not have stopped me from taking a few hours off and standing in line to see these in the theater. These movies were definitely an experience in the theater.

OK. I bought the DVD and then they came out with the long cut, bought those. It's been a few years though, so I guess it's time for another one. I think I will hold back until the have a BD version of the long director's cut and skip the "short" (3+ hours) version. I can't live without a ROTK version that has Sauron's Mouth.

the difference really is that i've already seen the full versions. (in the theater) and the EE's just provides more of what i want to see (don't remember exactly what was added)

i mean, if there was a LOTR 4 or 1.5 or 2.5 ... i'd be all over it :) (even if it was the short version)

I wonder if enough people skip the theatrical version, the studio will get the hint.

Would it even be worth a petition?
